Those words are not homophonic, but indeed are awfully similar. To distinguish a word to another, you could:
    1. Try to pronounce them in an actual English accent, or American, or Australian, or Scottish or whatsoever as long it's from an English speaking country. You speak, you listen, and you will get used to it.

    2. Analyze the context. E.g. "I wear a head on my hat". If you can't distinguish them, you should do a complete CT scan at a nearby hospital

If you dont know if u spell a word correctly, just make sure the context is correct, ppl who understand english will understand the word ure trying to say..

perhaps the pronunciation almost the same, but u can simply find the difference of those words through the sentence

Basicaly i could differ between head and hat....

Somehow my instinct tell me that i've got to say "hat" kind of faster than "head"....

But i don't have any idea how to differ bad-bed-bat... But it seemed better to give further information in conversation when talking using these words ;D

i think you can understand what people trying to say from the conversation that you made..

    A: My head is hurt
    B: which one is hurt?
A : of course my head not my hat

    lol
