RF Online Philippines : Chapter 1: Mankind Abandons Earth

In the earlier years of space travel, Antarctica used to be a central site for research and environmental adaptation training for space exploration. However, following the success of the 1st Galaxy Exploration and Development Plan, Antarctica was considered obsolete and slipped into obscurity. After the 4th Galaxy Exploration and Development Plan, what interest remained in Antarctica declined further, leaving the icy wasteland home to retired scientists or mere amateur researchers. By this time, the human race had long since begun exploring places beyond the scope of Antarctica, and beyond that of their home planet, Earth.

One of these residents was a man named Solberg Ivanovic. Ivanovic was a retired Biologist who belonged to the Arcane Research Club, which was a primarily composed of retired scientists and amateur researchers who focused their efforts on fields which were neglected or discarded by the mainstream academic society. They dealt with topics such as histories of human history and the origins of civilization on Earth. The academic world viewed the Arcane Research Club as merely a club of spoiled brats or a social group, not as an authentic body of science. The Club’s findings were disregarded as nonsense, as they were uncertified by any respectable society or backed up by scientific proof.

After his retirement, Solberg Ivanovic went to Antarctica to study life forms living in extreme conditions. His trip to Antarctica was not considered significant, as it was believed that there were no longer any life forms that were yet undiscovered remaining on Earth. Furthermore, he was viewed as being harebrained because of his affiliation with the Arcane Research Club. He was treated as an eccentric until he found the source of the Dimens Syndrome: the Arcane Virus.

The discovery of the Arcane Virus, many hundreds of meters below the Antarctic glacier, made him very excited. Without taking any precautions, Ivanovic extracted the virus and brought it to his laboratory as quickly as he could, overwhelmed by the excitement of discovering a new form of life on Earth. Despite being trapped under the Antarctic glacier for thousands of years, he found that the Arcane Virus was still alive and was simply hibernating until it was brought into a more suitable environment once again.

Solberg Ivanovic melted the ice in which the Arcane Virus was found with the hope that it would become one of the most significant discoveries in the history of biology. His heart pounding with excitement, he believed he would break the assumption that there were no other life forms on Earth. Little did he know that this discovery would spell the end of planet Earth and mankind. Freed from the ice, the Arcane Virus infected Ivanovic instantly. He initially disregarded this as a simply cold, and within the day all his colleagues within the laboratory were similarly infected.

People infected with the Virus displayed extreme desire for destruction and were abnormally aggressive. They were soon trying to kill each other off, this bloodthirsty behavior leading to their demise. The regular transport to Antarctica discovered this tragedy, but not knowing what led to it, brought the bodies of the dead researchers back to his base. The Virus was carried through the transport and instantly began infecting all it came in contact with. Within an incredibly short period of time, the whole of the Earth’s population had been infected. The Virus was far more contagious than any other virus found on Earth.

The people on Earth, showing the same abnormal aggression as Solberg Ivanovic and his colleagues had, killed each other off. The ultimate weapon of destruction of the period, the Fusion Cannon, was eventually used by those infected by the Virus to target colonies within the Sol System, such as Mars, the Moon, and the satellite moons of Saturn and Jupiter. The colonies had no choice by to fire back with their own fusion cannons to protect themselves from the attacks on Earth. This was the beginning of mankind’s end.

When word of what was happening spread beyond the Sol System, the people who had migrated to other systems in the galaxy were astonished by the incident. A search and rescue team was organized and sent to the Earth and the Sol System immediately, but they arrived too late. Earth and the other planets had been decimated by the brutal exchange of fire from the fusion cannons. All the planets were reduced to barren wastelands devoid of life, where radioactive ash fell from the sky. Earth was rendered into a land of extreme cold and darkness, a frozen land of no spring, its glory as the blue planet of the Solar System lost in history.

The search and rescue team realized after their initial survey that looking for survivors would be a futile attempt. Instead, their efforts were focused on determining the reasons for the incident. Their efforts led them to the discovery of the Arcane Virus as the reason for the total destruction of Earth and the planets of the Solar System. To their astonishment, the Virus had survived the extreme conditions produced by the fusion canons and had simply returned to a state of hibernation just as when it was originally discovered by Solberg Ivanovic.

With their exposure to the Arcane Virus, most of the members of the team started to show abnormal aggressiveness and, before long, began committing brutal murders against each other. The team realized the dangers of the Virus, and acted quickly before they lost most of their crew. Their findings were transmitted before the Virus overcame them. The administrator of Sector B-13 declared the Arcane Virus as a quarantined life form, and called the symptoms of the virus the Dimens Syndrome. The frontier base of the 4th Exploration and Development plan, B-13, became the new center for administration of what remained of the human race. The member of the catastrophe that had struck Earth was slowly forgotten, and the dawn of a new chapter for mankind slowly unfolded.

RF Online Philippines : Chapter 2: Chaos, Humanity’s Greatest Weapon

The Chairman of the Arcane Research Club in the Labrum Sector, Dr. Do-Hyun was an anthropologist studying the origins of human civilization. Despite having multiple doctorate degrees in biology, anthropology, archeology and being an excellent scientist, Do-Hyun was considered an eccentric or a lunatic by scientific society. This was because his field of research concerned the mythic civilization of Atlantis that was supposed to have existed on Earth.

While his achievements gave him good standing within the Club, those very same achievements made him a laughing-stock when dealing with those outside the group. This was because of the subjects he researched, in particular, the rise of Mu and the civilization of Atlantis. The various stone images situated on the British Isles and its relation to other mysteries of history was also one of the primary subjects of his research, and aided in furthering his theories.

The scientific civilization of Atlantis had become the greatest of the time due to its technology, but was eventually destroyed in the conflict against the Mu civilization, its remaining survivors spreading far and wide across the ancient world. On the British Isles, the previously non-existent stone formations were constructed by the Mu civilization, as a rough copy of that built by a superior civilization. It was researching a method to cure a global plague, but was shocked to discover that it could do nothing. However, the fact that both had disappeared led Do-Hyun to one conclusion: the Arcane Virus had been present in ancient times, and had caused the destruction of both Atlantis and Mu.

Fortunately, he had recent data on the life form that Solberg Ivanovic had discovered before his death, and had acquired the reports on the Dimens Syndrome from the search and rescue team before they too succumbed to the Virus. Dr. Do-Hyun made a hypothesis on the fall of ancient civilization based on these findings. He proposed that the technological civilization of Atlantis and the spiritual civilization of Mu had gone to war not because of just any mundane reason, but because they had been influenced by the Dimens Syndrome caused by the Arcane Virus. He speculated that the intense war between these two civilizations caused catastrophic disasters that eventually sank whole continents. The war’s aftermath not only put the Arcane Virus into hibernation deep underground, but erased all traces of the Dimens Syndrome from mankind’s history.

However, the Dimens Syndrome did not completely disappear from mankind, but remained deep within mankind’s DNA and turned mankind into a war-mongering race. This led him to believe that that it was this aggressive quality that led to man’s natural supremacy despite the fact that humans lacked any natural implements for survival. Ordinary animals do not kill their own kind for any purposes outside of survival, but humans on the other hand kill each other for a multitude of reasons. Mankind then, is far more capable of brutality than any carnivore and is more violent than any animal. This is what human nature became.

Because of a relation to the civilization of Mu, the Moai stone figures gave Dr. Do-Hyun a new idea on how the virus originated. He speculated that the reason why these two civilizations, one with extremely advanced spiritual development, and the other with extremely advanced technology, could do nothing but watch helplessly as their civilizations fell to this virus without resistance, was that the virus may have had come from yet another civilization that was superior in both aspects, both scientifically and spiritually.

These speculations were not accepted in the scientific community; even though Do-Hyun cited the existence of evidence to support his theory that could be found on Earth, such as Stonehenge, the Great Pyramids and other such unexplainable structures

RF Online Philippines : Chapter 3: A New Race, A New Civilization

In the Vegan star system, 25.3 light years from Earth in the constellation Lyra, lived the race that man would come to call the Herodians. (Herodians: a political party in ancient times who followed the teachings of King Herod, and was opposed to Jesus Christ.)

The Herodians are known as one of the galaxy’s most violent races. They are infamous for their wars of conquest, completely wiping out entire races and civilizations using their advanced technology, all to feed their insatiable appetite for resources. Weaker races located near the Vegan star system had no choice but to serve the cruel Herodians, lest they be totally annihilated. Other rival races of the Herodians, of which there were several in the Taurus Star System, had already been warned about their brutality and belligerence.

After learning that several races had allied together with the intention of resisting their power, the Herodians launched a preemptive attack and began yet another war. This war between the Herodians and the Taurus Alliance ground to a ceasefire after several thousand years. Battered by the protracted conflict, both the Taurus Alliance and the Herodians began seeking other methods to overcome their foe while the ceasefire was in effect.

The Herodians had to expend a huge amount of resources just to satisfy their appetite for development and the maintenance of their civilization. They had a very straightforward ideology: produce more to keep up with demand. This single-mindedness may point to how they developed their advanced civilization, because they have such a simple and efficient social structure. However, their adherence to this philosophy had of course, one great weakness – an incredibly heavy consumption of natural resources to develop and maintain their system.

But the Herodians had a special method of supplying their need for resources. They would deploy specially engineered organisms to eliminate any creatures that resided on a target planet, and afterwards would proceed to occupy and take over the planet’s resources. This need for resources was intensified due to the war and their need to overcome the strength of the Taurus Alliance. It was no surprise that they reached out to find resources in the far reaches of the galaxy, to the very star system of mankind. They were shocked to discover that a primitive race called humanity had already explored and colonized this section of the galaxy and were predominant in this sector. The reason why the Herodians were so surprised was because humanity had flourished, despite the fact that they had deployed the Arcane Virus to destroy humanity on Earth. No other primitive race had previously survived the Herodian bioweapon – Arcane Virus.

Soon enough, the Herodians prepared to deploy a new version of the virus, one that was far more potent than the one they had deployed to earth. This virus was the same biological weapon they had used in the war with the Taurus Alliance. The human race would have no idea why they were dying out. The Herodians had no doubt that the systems of mankind would soon be under their control, but they once again underestimated the human race. Although the majority of mankind would be massacred by the virus, the few survivors remaining developed weapons to fight against the new strain of the virus

RF Online Philippines : Chapter 4: The Reemergence of the Arcane Virus, Mankind Perishes

The shadow of tragedy loomed over mankind, when the virus appeared at the peak of mankind’s seemingly endless exploration and development into the galaxy. Almost simultaneously, the fatal virus struck the multiple sectors that mankind had colonized. Many famous doctors and scientists attempted to find a cure for the virus, but almost immediately lost their lives afterwards. The only conclusion they had been able to arrive at was that those infected by this new virus had the same exact symptoms as those shown in the past by those on Earth, which had caused the complete destruction of the solar system.

The people infected by the virus showed extreme hostility, destructive behavior and extreme agitation. They ended killing either themselves or other people. The real difference was that the old virus had a fatality after 7 days, while the new virus killed its host after 8 hours of exposure. The terror of this new virus was not only its lethality but also its amazing rate of contamination. It was utterly incomparable to the original Arcane Virus.

The new Arcane Virus could survive in extreme temperatures, either hot or cold. It could contaminate even quarantined areas at an amazing rate where the original Virus could not normally have spread. Via regular cargo ships, passenger ships and personal vessels, the Virus had infected throughout the sectors of humanity. Within an incredibly small span of time, about 90% of the human race had died.

The last hope for the human race to survive was to completely shut down all connections from outer space. Uninfected systems closed down all their links to the outside world, such as transportation platforms and communication networks. Fortunately, not all the sectors and star systems had been exposed to the virus. Some special sectors did not even have fatal damage despite limited exposure. One of the sectors that survived was the Labrum Sector, where Dr. Do-Hyun resided. Do-Hyun speculated that this virus was closely related to the old Arcane Virus. He and his colleagues began studying the virus transmitted from virus-exposed sectors before they had lost communications, and named this new virus the Arcane Virus.

Soon after they began their research, the Arcane Club scientists made a startling and unexpected discovery. The truth was that the new Arcane Virus had already infected the Labrum Secto. The virus was functioning as it was supposed to, and was in an incubation phase. The Arcane Club scientists confirmed that the virus was indeed the new strain of the Arcana Virus when they activated it. The activated virus went into hibernation just as fast as it infected the 5 scientists who had performed the experiment. Dr. Do-Hyun suspected that there was something unique in the environment of the Labrum Sector that caused the virus to cease functions, but could not confirm this discovery since all transportation and communication mediums had been destroyed to protect them.

They were uncertain if any sectors would answer had they even been able to send a message, but it was the only option they had available. All possible courses of actions had to be explored, and thus messages were sent to every possible sector, all while they continued their study of the Labrum Sector. They were unable to confirm their research, since all standard forms of transportation and communication were out of commission as a precaution against the Virus’ contamination. They eventually discovered from the Labrum Sector Administration that there were new minerals that had been discovered that were natural only to Labrum. This mineral called Halostone, in particular its refined form Haloment, was more volatile than any previously discovered form of matter. Furthermore, it possessed mysterious characteristics that were unexplainable by science or man.

The Labrum Sector Administration kept this discovery hidden, and began studying the mineral in secret. This crucial discovery however was forgotten when the new Virus made its appearance, as it was too much for them to handle. Believing that there was a strong relationship between the mineral and the Virus, the Arcane Club members were extremely focused on finding an answer that would prove the link. In particular, what piqued their interest were the unexplainable energies that radiated from the Haloment, which seemed to be related to the functions of the new Arcane Virus. After proving their hypothesis correct, the Labrum Sector Administration approved their request for support, and they were able to continue their studies on the Haloment.

The members of the Arcane Club were confused as to why the Arcane Virus could not be activated in the presence of the Haloment, though it could be activated in the confines of the laboratory. The Arcane Club, with the full support of the Labrum Sector Administration, began the development of a vaccine against the Virus. However, it seemed to be an impossible task to develop the vaccine, as the scientists were unable to understand the properties of the Haloment. The leader of the Arcane Club, Dr. Do-Hyun, focused his efforts on the research of the Haloment itself, rather than the development of the vaccine. His idea of developing the Haloment for other purposes was unpopular to the administration or his colleagues. He was eventually excluded from the vaccine research team. As work on the vaccine reached its peak, an unexpected event arose: a fleet of unidentified intergalactic battleships were heading straight towards the Labrum sector.

Several warnings were sent by the Labrum administration to the battle fleet, as they sought to find out the origin of these unidentified ships. The only reply they received was news of the utter destruction of G-71, one of the planets located near the Labrum sector. The residents of Labrum were astounded that despite their advanced technology, such a disaster could happen to G-71. Reports came in that G-71 had been annihilated in less than 30 minutes. Sent into a state of chaos, the Labrum sector attempted to fight the unidentified battleships, but their defense forces were easily destroyed. The mysterious fleet was simply unstoppable as they devastated anything in their path to G-06, the central planet of the Labrum sector.

The people of G-06 desperately sought ways of escape from their planet, their only option being the conventional method of space travel, as all the teleport platforms had been destroyed to prevent the spread of the Arcane Virus. However, as soon as they left the atmosphere of G-06, nothing but death awaited them. The would-be escapees were turned into ashes before they could reach safety. Despite the chaos that had descended around him, Dr. Do-Hyun constructed a theory that linked the Arcane Virus to the alien fleet that was attempting to destroy humanity. He felt that the there was a strong possibility that the Virus had been developed by an advanced alien civilization, and that using the Haloment, mankind would be able to neutralize this senseless alien attack. Unfortunately, no one paid him any attention which was hardly surprising, considering the utter chaos of the world.

G-06 was no longer a peaceful planet, the administration had collapsed and the people had fallen into despair. Mankind gradually began to self-destruct out of hopelessness, when suddenly the alien battle ships ceased their attacks and withdrew to the outer regions of the sector. Despite the peaceful interval due to the sudden halt of attacks, Dr. Do-Hyun remained intensely focused on the study of the Haloment with a few of his colleagues. He had discovered another aspect of the Haloment, that it was able to react directly with the mind of any living life form, and in that manner it developed a new type of energy from the exposure to its incredible volatility.

Among the speculations that Do-Hyun made, was that the alien ships had been repulsed by the psychic energies that emitted from the Haloment. If his hypothesis was false, than certainly the aliens would have long destroyed them. This short-lived peace was ended soon when the humans began turning on each other, the remnants of the defense forces tracking down other survivors to mercilessly kill them and take what they could for their own benefit, their minds lost to savagery. Do-Hyun realized that if his work was destroyed here, mankind would truly have no future. He needed a more suitable place to continue his research and prove his hypothesis. Escape was of the essence, especially since they received news that the alien fleet was once again en-route to G-06. Commandeering one of the sluggish science vessels, Dr. Do-Hyun prepared to depart G-06 with 26 of his colleagues who had felt the need to unite in order for survival. As soon as they had gathered themselves and left the planet, the final assault by the alien fleet was launched and completely destroyed what remained of the Labrum sector.

RF Online Philippines : Chapter 5: Aftermath of Halostone

Not knowing where they should go after their narrow escape from G-06, the scientists simply plotted a course that led them away from the alien ships. Thus began their many years of drifting in space. They first targeted the nearest human colonies, but found no life existing there to welcome them. While they continued searching for civilization on this endless drift through the universe, they continued studying the Haloment to try and find clues that might aid them. They had no choice but to continue their research, as their crew members slowly perished through their journey. Dr. Do-Hyun never lost hope that someday they would find not aliens, but other humans who would finish what they had started. This belief that they would find a home of mankind was the only thing that kept him from falling into despair. For over thirty years they drifted among the stars, searching for any survivors of the human race.

Only Dr. Do-Hyun and two other colleagues remained of the crew when they stumbled upon a place where humanity was still in existence: Novus Sector. Novus was a special sector assigned by the Pan-Earth Alliance to conduct special research using outcastes – people with special abilities and mutated humans, all who were rejected from society. The research conducted was to create a new kind of human being.

After the 1st Galaxy Exploration and Development Plan, the central government of humanity, the Pan-Earth Alliance, realized that they needed to guarantee their ability to conquer. This required them to create a new kind of human being that was superior to the current human race. It was an inevitable decision, as in their desire to assert their dominance; humanity had been battling new civilizations that had superior physical and mental abilities. This was why the Pan-Earth Alliance sent a special team to test various humans across the galaxy, such as criminals, mutants and other special people to become test subjects for their new project. Novus Sector was where this grand scheme was to be carried out.

However, Novus Sector was no exception to the effects of the Arcane Virus. The primary teleport platforms had been destroyed to protect them from the virus, and communication between them and other systems had long ceased as well. When Dr. Do-Hyun arrived in Novus, he strongly believed that this was the place for the renaissance of mankind.
Estimated Time, 33 Years (Earth Standard)

I am all alone now after 26 other members of my crew have perished, as we sought signs of human life in this dark universe. After drifting through the galaxy for 33 years, we finally found human life. Despite drifting around the universe in despair, I and my 2 remaining crew were very happy, believing that we would finally be able to discover the secrets of the alien race, the Herodians, that sought to kill us all.

However, our joy on finding a human planet was short lived. We have witnessed the sins that the human race had committed on this planet. The sins committed by the Pan-Earth Alliance under the name of “creating a better human”. The last two members of my crew died immediately after we got here. The cause of death was not this new Arcane virus or the alien Herodians who created it. They were killed by humans, the test subjects, twisted and mutated by Pan-Earth Alliance through countless horrors and experiments. Our own kind.

I realized something after looking at the people that had been turned into monsters, that we are the most vicious animals. Should we have existed at all? After 33 years of wandering, had the lives of my colleagues been wasted for the wrong cause? This will be my last journal entry. I no longer wish to continue to keep the life support running. I do not wish to live another day. These records…I am confused as to what they are for.

During my drift without hope of a future, my colleagues and I learned the secrets behind the new virus and makers of the virus, the Herodians, as well as the secrets of Haloment-- the only thing that can counter the Herodians.

Humans are beasts, beasts full of greed, a beast that cannot share the world with others.
That is why I believe, that if there should be someone who can destroy the Herodians, that someone could only be mankind.

If this universe cannot be shared between Mankind and Herodian, then I hope that it will be Mankind who survive. I suppose, that despite all the sins that we have committed, I am still one of Mankind.

RF Online Philippines : Chapter 6: Origins of the 3 Races

The Pan-Earth alliance had secretly started reconstructing bodies in a few designated sectors in the outer rim of the galaxy, using these places as bases for the development of super humans. Project Alpha Adam focused on maximizing man’s physical and mental capability by artificially manufacturing super bodies using genetic modification of DNA, ingestion of lethal doses of drugs, and experimentation on evolving a body that would adapt to all environments.

During these experiments, many test subjects died of side effects and became uncontrollable monsters after losing their minds. Despite this, they continued their research for the creation of better humans, operating under strict secrecy, hiding the results of their hideous experiments and methods. For them, in the name of ensuring mankind’s future, these test subjects were dispensable. Even if these test subjects became horrifying monstrosities, they were to continue the Project with no hesitation. This initiative was accelerated by the B-13 government when the Solar System was destroyed, and Novus Sector was one of the test centers for Project Alpha Adam.

Planet Accretia is principally an oceanic world, with small land masses. Of the land masses, 65% of this was either desert or arid land, with conditions too harsh for most animals to survive in. However, it was still considered an ideal place to build a new civilization in, because of an abundance of other natural resources, especially those derived from the waters and sea. This was the reason why the Pan-Earth Alliance selected Accretia as their base when they conducted their research in Novus Sector. The severe, science-minded Accretian Research Team ran the Human Reconstruction Experiment on the 18 planets of Novus Sector.

For them, warm-blooded human beings were nothing more than test subjects. Their ultimate goal was to create a new civilization based on the might of science. To achieve their goal, they would allow nothing to hinder them, committing untold atrocities in their pursuit of scientific dominance. Eventually, certain circumstances occurred that led the Accretians to develop their answer: the complete and total mechanization of the human body, to create a new human being.

Planet Cora was located in the Lumen System, the other half of Novus Sector. It was here that experiments on human mental strength were conducted. Many of the test subjects were driven to insanity, losing their minds in these tests. On Planet Niven, test subjects were transformed into monsters with incredible physical strength, but the products of these tests proved to be mentally unstable and unsuitable for their purposes, degrading into wild and raging beasts with minimal intellect.

Their failure of the gravity experiment on planet Niven led the researchers to reevaluate their parameters for their physical enhancement experiment. They added the aspect of increasing mental ability in their gravity augmentation program, based on data that showed the necessity of increasing mental strength to enable man’s survival in extreme conditions.

The Accretian Research Team applied this new program to human test subjects on Planet Bellato. This experiment was considered a great success. Just as their data predicted, they were successful in creating a body with superior physical and mental ability. Their only remaining task was the mass production of this new type of human using DNA modification and environment adaptation training.

On planet Cora, most of the test subjects were humans with extra mental capability, such as those who had ESP. Scientists divided these test subjects into several categories and tested according their abilities. Among the categories that the scientists divided, the two most prominent were those labeled Type-H and Type-D, respectively those bearing the powers of healing and death. These test subjects were trained to survive in extremely harsh living conditions depending on pure mental power. Many tests were conducted, using DNA modification as well to guarantee better performance. The subjects on planet Cora and Bellato were considered the only truly successful experiments among their numerous test sites.

However, all these depraved projects instigated by the Pan-Earth Alliance never came to be used for their purpose of interstellar domination, as mankind was brought to its knees by the Arcane Virus and the consequent direct attacks by the Herodians. Mankind was being brought to an end by the alien conquerors.

The experiments were abruptly ended with the emergence of the Arcane Virus in Novus. The scientists had no choice but to destroy all communication and transportation mediums to protect themselves after learning that the virus could be spread via planetary teleport networks. These drastic survival measures caused them great problems as they slowly lost control over their test subjects, since their primary method of control relied on the functionality of these networks.

After losing control over their test subjects, both monsters created by failed experiments and their successful test subjects began to retaliate against their creators. It was no wonder that these new kinds of humans and creatures were attacking the scientists. After all, they had been subjected to extreme conditions in order to maximize their strengths.

Most of the test subjects on the other 16 planets, with the exception of planet Bellato and Cora, have lived primitively after destroying all the Accretian research facilities. However, the test subjects on Bellato and Cora behaved differently. They were more aware of their humanity and the situation that led to their present states. Realizing this, they gathered themselves together to ensure their survival. The destruction of the teleport platform networks was their biggest problem, as supplies could no longer be shipped. Thus they began the creation of their own civilizations as the remnants of the human race.

The test subjects on Cora began building their unique civilization based on the mental abilities they had. At the same time the test subjects on planet Bellato also began building their unique civilization, based on their knack for technology and the mental ability that they possessed. One of the last surviving planets was planet Accretia.

When the Arcane virus struck, the survival of the Accretian Research Team was put in danger. The destroyed teleportation platforms could no longer supply them with what they needed from the Pan Earth Alliance, and a potent new virus threatened everyone on planet Accretia. They sought a way to survive and began experiments on their own bodies. This was not a difficult task, as all the necessary technology and resources required were abundant on their planet. Thus they began the transformation from biological beings to mechanical.

This was the origin of the three races.

The Herodians were deeply puzzled and interested in the human race, since they had managed to survive even their enhanced Arcane Virus. Their questions were endless on how a relatively primitive race such as mankind could survive the new virus, when their rival civilization the Taurus Alliance could not. Without realizing the incredible potential of humanity, the Herodians simply followed their standardized plan of extermination. In the past, the mighty Herodians had once shown mercy on their enemies and suffered terribly because of that decision. Since then, they espoused a philosophy of total genocide to ensure that any enemies encountered would not return to haunt them in the future.

While the Herodians continued their plan of eradication, the remnants of the surviving humans thrived, not because of their own innate strengths, but due to the mysterious mineral called the Halomental. For to Herodians, the Halomental was a deadly, radioactive substance. The mental waves emitted by the Halomental caused insanity and mental deterioration in Herodians, and with close exposure, death.

After several of their battle groups were destroyed due to the effects of the Halomental, the Herodians began to research into the mineral. Despite use of safety mechanisms and cutting edge technology, the Herodians were unable to protect themselves from the mental waves that it emitted, thus prohibiting any sort of research on it. They believed however, that if they were able to utilize the power of the Halomental they would be able to destroy the Taurus Alliance. But this was simply an unattainable dream for them. The Herodians used every method they could in their attempt to further study Halomental. In this impossible situation, their desire to master it only increased.

Then, unexpectedly, the Herodians found the human race once more, dwelling in planets long believed to be inhabitable in the remotest of sectors. The scions of the human race had been found in the sector called Novus. Observing them since their discovery, the Herodians noted that these humans were evolving far differently than humans. They theorized that these new, uniquely evolving humans would prove to be the key to the Halomental. The Novus sector consisted of two hydrogen/helium burning suns and a total of 21 planets. Among these planets, only three worlds, namely Accretia, Bellato and Cora, were occupied by the descendants of the human race.

RF Online Philippines : Chapter 7: Beginning of the First Novus War

For several hundred years after the attack of the second Arcane Virus, the neo-humans had adapted to their environments and developed civilizations of their own. Eventually they re-commissioned the once destroyed teleport platforms to resume communication and transportation to other planets other than theirs. Just as their ancestors did, they began colonizing other nearby planets. In the course of their explorations, they were surprised to discover that there were other races that existed with a similar heritage. Since then, each race had been consistently developing their civilizations under the surveillance of their rivals to achieve the desire of being master of Novus. The three races have distinguishable features that make them different from one another, but nonetheless their innermost natures are not all that different, such as the human desire to be superior to other living things, harboring dark animosity in their minds.

After many years of observations, the Herodians created a plan.

Their plan was based on humanity’s intrinsic nature, aware of mankind’s capacity for cruelty. Humanity was considered among the most cruel and brutal creatures found in the known universe. The nature of mankind was contrary to the existence of the Herodians, and they feared that coexistence would be impossible.

The three descendants of the human race were very cautious about each other. Accretia, Bellato and Cora had each created unique civilizations based on their heritage. Eventually, the three races discovered the presence of Halomental. Their desire for the qualities of Halomental was great, wanting it for its incredible reactivity as well as its ability to enhance and produce psionic energies.

The race that possessed Halomental possessed the power to rapidly advance its civilization. As of yet, the three races had to realize that they were safe from the second Arcane Virus and the Herodians due to the presence of the Halomental in the system. They constantly studied the Halomental, believing that their research would allow them to fully exploit the potential of the mineral. Ironically, the future of the three races was on the very path that the Herodians wanted for the three races – fighting for the control of the Halomental.

The Corite philosophy was driven by their belief in a divine being, enabling them to create a world of both science and supernatural power. They believed that their ideas, way of life and the other aspects of their civilization perfectly harmonized with science. The basis of the Corite mental power however, actually rested in the research and studies of the Pan-Earth Alliance’s scientists.

The dogma of the Corite people is centered on the idea of a numeric-deity named DECEM. They believe that 10 is the perfect number, that 10 is the beginning and the end at once: creation and destruction. Such was their faith, that they gave worshipped the number 10. The Cora preached that the path of DECEN could be attained in three stages: to learn the meaning behind the number, to find one’s self within the number, and to attain the invincible state of being within the learning of DECEN. They believed that whoever unlocked the mysteries of this number would gain the secrets of the universe, harness the power of nature and unleash the true power from within. This religion is the basis of their daily life, social system, and politics. What the people of Cora did not know, was that thousands of years ago, people on Earth also believed in religion preceding all aspects of life.

But history always seems to repeat itself. Like before, the people of Cora were about to make the same mistakes that their ancestors once did. For the Cora, any other religion or philosophy of life aside from DECEN and the worship of DECEM was not acceptable; such was their fusion of their beliefs and their lives. Not only did the Cora have completely different values in living as the Accretians, they detested and hated the mechanized bodies of the Accretians.

On the other hand, the Accretians thought of the Corites as completely incomprehensible people. The Accretians believed that the mind was nothing more than electrical pulses generated by a machine or organic system. Believing that the brain’s biological functions as some unscientific phenomenon or believe that a number could be a divine being rather than just simply a learning tool or concept was absurd.

With DECEM being their highest value, the God of Creation and Destruction, the Corites believed that they needed to destroy everything that would impede their holy task. The Accretians viewed the Corites as completely illogical and were furious of the idea of wasting valuable resources with such people. Natural resources were an important necessity of the Accretian society, and their limited resources had to be allocated properly to where it was needed. The Accretians viewed the Cora as having no right to such valuable resources, since they were an illogical and wasteful race. In particular, they hated the idea of wasting Halomental on the Cora, and thus concluded that they should deny the waste of such a valuable resource to the Cora, who only used the Halomental for improving their ridiculous ‘mental power’. It was so unscientific, after all. The Cora thought of Halomental as a scared material that would allow them to reach spiritual heights, and enable them to create the tools to spread DECEM’s teachings. They soon began a war against the Accretians to take control over the Halomental. Thus began the first Novus Sector war.

With the war going on, the Bellato thought to make a profit between these two races. The Bellato monarchial government used their armed forces to serve as mercenaries for the two races. At times they found for the Cora, at times they found with the Accretians. The Bellato monarchy gained considerably from the conflict, and in turn used this wealth to assert their dominance over the Bellato people. However, the monarchy did not long last into the war, as the very forces they sent so they could profit from the war became the very instruments of their downfall. The troops sent to fight in the war were exposed to the governments and political systems of Accretia and Cora, shocked by the differences. Upon their return, they started a rebellion against the monarchy, which had been living in decadent affluence by using the lives of the soldiers as their tools.

The Bellato Monarchy soon perished and was replaced by an entirely new system, forged from the military junta that had emerged: the Bellato Union. The Union was created by the people who had fought in the war between Cora and Accretia, but who had dropped their philosophy of peace and started to fight in earnest against the Cora and Accretians. The three races began their war against each other in earnest, not knowing that the Herodians were watching over them locked in war, the last descendants of humanity.

RF Online Philippines : Chapter 8: First Novus War, and into the Present

The Bellato Union, entering the war in full, struck first against the Cora in the Lumen System. Their surprise offensive against the Cora, who had already been engaged in a full front war against the Accretians, were unable to resist the Union’s attacks. With the Union threatening to completely conquer the Cora worlds, the remaining Cora forces met with the Accretians. Despite their great hatred for each other, the two races realized the benefits of temporarily allying with each other.

The Cora needed the assistance of the Accretians to fight back this sudden attack, and the Accretians recognized that the Bellato, after conquering the Cora, would eventually go after them with a vastly superior advantage. United against the Bellato Union, the Accretians and Cora turned all their power against them. Against the combined, more experienced forces of both Accretia and Cora, the Union was unable to withstand them.

The allied Accretian and Cora forces were able to liberate the Cora worlds by applying pressure on multiple fronts. The Cora troops withdrew from Niger and focused on the Lumen system, while the Accretian forces hammered at their nearby neighbors in the Niger system. The Union was eventually defeated and had to withdraw from their conquests in the Cora system, consolidating their strength in their homeworlds.

However the plans to completely destroy the Union failed, because the tensions between the Cora and Accretians finally broke out and destroyed their temporary alliance.

All the three races were exhausted and drained by the war, and a temporary lull in the war between the three races ensued. Each of them underwent changes in their military and government during this time.

The Accretians their Empire to a more matial stance, shifting from a simple technocracy focused on surival. The Cora reestablished itself as the Holy Alliance of Cora. And the Union was overthrown and replaced by a government combining both popular (democratic) and aristocratic (monarchial) elements, the Federation.

    History of Accretia

Planet Accretia is 89% ocean. Of the remaining land, approximately 65% was either alpine land or harsh wasteland. However, the wealth of oceanic-based resources led to its colonization and selection by the Novus Sector team of Project Alpha Adam as their primary base. They believed that the environment they had chosen was perfect for their purpose in monitoring the projects of creating new humans for combat against alien races.

However, approximately 100 years after their arrival and colonization of Accretia, the scientific colony suffered a disaster. It was discovered that they could no longer give birth to children. Due to the colony’s nature, they had not been able to avoid intermarriages of close relations, and their genetics had suffered due to this. This was compounded by the disaster of the Arcane Virus, which had locked them into their own planet.

Not long after, a researcher raised a possible solution to this issue. He had the colony’s genetic code information, and based on this he suggested the use of artificial fertilization. This plan was denied however, due to the inferior genes that it produced and the lack of variety. However, the idea was not wholly discarded and a variation of it, complex combination fertilization, was adopted.

After 10 years of careful study and research, the first child brought about by this method was born and was named Changrira. However, the child died after 13 years, suffering from critical diseases based on flawed genetics. They discovered at this time that the environment on Accretia had affected and mutated their base genes. The Accretians were pained by this knowledge, and hundreds of lives perished shortly after this discovery. By now, those remaining were too old to affect any natural means of reproduction.

Having no choice, the Accretians escalated their research into more drastic methods of preservation. They had originally developed mechanical bodies and cybernetics for the use of their Alpha Adam project, but now changed their program for their survival. They decided to take the chance of a total transplant of a human brain into the mechanized body. Fortunately for them, this last hope took place without problems and the transplanted brain functioned properly with the mechanized body. Soon enough, the 2nd and 3rd generations of the Accretian colony transplanted their brains into mechanized bodies as well.

However, not all the transplantations occurred without flaw. One of the Accretian colonists was unable to handle the image of himself in such a form. He eventually went insane and burnt its own circuitry. Another person simply could not handle the biological adaptation process to the new body. However, most of the transplant surgeries had been successful, and they were able to survive for as long as their brain could function. After this, all their new children produced via the combination fertilization process were transplanted into mechanized bodies before genetic diseases could take effect.

Another 100 years passed, and the last of the original colonists died out. However, with their passing a new disaster was about to occur. Infatuated by their metal bodies, some Accretians began to completely discard their biological aspect and digitize their brains. One such person was named Albert. In digitalizing his brain, Albert was able to acquire the ability to hack through mental networks, penetrating into the brain circuitry of other people. Using this method, he began to influence and assert control over others. By the time this was revealed, over 40% of the population had digitized their brains.

At this point, Albert himself ran into a great problem of his own. His control over such a great number of minds had affected his own identity, and he was soon lost and broken because of all the personalities linked to his own. In his electronic brain, the mix and influence of thousands of minds had driven him insane and led him to begin a war to totally digitize all the brains of all Accretians.

The struggle that ensued eventually reduced the Accretian population to less than 50% of what it was before the civil war. However, in this struggle, a hero named Kesar rose to prominence in the war against the digitalized Accretians. After that incident, the digital brain plan was abolished and all children who were afterward transplanted received protection mechanisms to prevent emotional attachments from forming when undergoing the transplant process into mechanical bodies. All the supporters of Albert’s party were eliminated by Kesar and his troops.

Raised as the hero who ended the incident, Kesar became a core component in the Accretian authorities hereafter. This was the origin of the Imperial Line, the beginning of Accretia’s current “Royal” family.

    History of Bellato

The planet Bellato has a super-dense core, giving it a gravity of approximately 2.5G. This was the primary reason why the planet was chosen as the site for the augmented gravity program by the Accretian Research Team for the production of troops with enhanced strength. The research project there went well. Although the height of the people there were reduced to up to 70% of standard, their physical prowess was about 3 times more. Because of their comparatively small frames, Powered Armors of smaller sizes were developed for their use. As a whole, their development was deemed a great success.

But disaster struck when the second Arcane Virus was unleashed by the Herodians. After discovering that the Virus could transmit itself through their teleportation networks, the teleportation gate systems where shut down. After the unwilling isolation of the planet had been accomplished, the anger that the test subjects against the researchers finally erupted. The Bellato test subjects engaged in genocide until all the members of the Accretian Research Team had been killed, including related personnel and their families.

The Bellato divided into various power groups, and for about 300 years they engaged in conflicts with each other over territory, resources and food. After this extended period of time, a lull in the continual warfare arrived. Approximately 10 million Bellato had perished during this period of time. The planet had been divided into seven stable territories, each with a government acknowledging the sovereignty of the others.

The Bellato as a whole entered into a renaissance of sorts, and for the next 100 years they focused on researching their origins and developing their civilization. For the next 100 years after that, the Bellato reached out to explore and discover. They discovered that there were other races living in their system, and a united government was established to stand against them. This was officially recognized as the true end of the period of internal conflicts that had lasted for 200 years since the end of the great wars.

    History of Cora

The Cora were the experimental materiel for the Accretian Research Team’s ESP Experiment, and were viewed as a bio-weapon development plan. After their isolation due to the second Arcane Virus, the remaining scientists utilized their ESP control system to manage the Cora project. This lasted for awhile, until one of the Corites managed to seduce her controller. Behaving very carefully, she managed to exploit her influence over the controller. Eventually she managed to get the master key to the ESP Control System by killing the researcher who held it, and freed her fellows.

Although she was killed in the process of liberating her brethren, she is still kept in Cora historical records as one of their first heroes. After being set free, the Cora ensued in a struggle for resources and territory. However their period of internal warfare did not last as long as the Bellato, thanks to the early appearance of a charismatic leader.

Only the initials of this Cora remains, D.A., but he is acknowledged as being the most powerful Cora in history. He was known as well for uniting the Corite race as well as being the first Prophet of DECEM. They developed a way of life that incorporated DECEM, and under his leadership, and eventually became self-sufficient. Cora civilization was particularly advanced in terms of understanding human civilization and society, but was somewhat lackluster in science and technology due to their reliance on their mental abilities.

In order to reach space however, they were forced to develop more advanced engineering and scientific ability. After two centuries of work, they managed to return to space and reach out into the universe. Somehow, the Cora became aware of the existence of a Destroyer Race of aliens (the Herodians), and went into a panic over this revelation.

They began increased development of their abilities for war, seeking more powerful methods of destruction and increasing their fighting ability. The product of their studies was called Dark Force. But there were people who did not believe in this new type of Force ability, and cautioned against putting too much merit into the study of destructive force. These were those who had studied the opposite aspect of destruction, the use of healing and creative force: Holy Force. This opposition in ideology caused the Cora to divide into two factions.

However, as the Dark Force faction had the greater reason for existence, the Holy Force faction was eventually defeated. This period was called the War of Colors. The defeated faction’s members were exiled from the Cora homeworld, and deported into space. Most of these exiles would find themselves taking refuge among the more open-minded Bellato, hiding in the culture of those people.

The Cora, now freed of any divisive factions and firmly united in the belief of DECEM, began expanding their belief in force and their ideology into the universe.

Notable Members of the Accretian Empire

    Overseer Blackdread

Faction: Defenders of the Word, Imperial Magistrate

    Class: Multiple

    Background:

One of the few Accretians bearing the title, "Emperor's Arm", Blackdread is a leader of the Defenders of the Word faction. In battle, he is notorious for his propensity in using Desolators to totally annihilate all who stand in the way of the Empire. "Bloodthirsty" describes him all too aptly - he is known to prefer the consumption of flesh to recharge his core (his anatomy is uniquely formed for this purpose).

A true Defender of the Word in action, he takes the aspect of self-sacrifice in the Imperial Constitution as his prime motivation in command and personal action. His zeal has made him a figure to be reckoned with. Even those serving under him stir at the mere mention of his name - not only in fear, but in respect and reverence.

    Hitoshura

Faction: Defenders of the Word, "Bloodied Hand", Emperor's Champion

    Class: Punisher

    Background:

"The Killer of a Thousand Men", Hitoshura is the epitome of a destroyer. His rise towards the Breeder caste came when he launched himself in a frenzy against a whole legion of turncoats, saving key settlements and figures in the process. At the end of the skirmish, atop a scrapheap of shattered Neo-Accretian bodies, stood the decapitated upper torso of Hitoshura, lance pointed high towards the sky: a war banner that struck both fear and admiration to all that beheld it.

His lust for combat is so strong that he is kept in stasis during his idle time.

    Celestial

    Faction: Gene Keepers, Chief Architect

    Class: Annhiliator/Battle Scientist

    Background:

One of the leaders of the Gene Keepers, Celestial is in charge with the discovery of candidates for the research of the ultimate Accretian DNA. He petitioned a research expedition to Novus immediately after hearing of Hitoshura's participation in a coming battle. He is among the few who have the privilege of maintaining two primary cores, one for combat and one for research, be it on the field or off it.

    Flatline

    Faction: Neo-Accretians, Clockwork Brigade, Leader

    Class: Unknown

    Rank: Legion/Principalii (unconfirmed)

    Background:

There are very few embarassing moments in the Empire's history - the war of ...'fung, the Digitalis Incident, and the Wars of Succession, just to name a few. But perhaps the greatest embarassment is the one that plagues them to the present day; a nightmare that refuses to die.

    Its name is Flatline.

During the pre-Digitalis years, Accretia was recovering from the discovery of the 13th Deadline (the genetic damage). Several scientists were trying to find a cure for it, but no solution could be found. Duels and debates raged across the land as Accretians tried to figure out the way to save their dying race, but all seemed lost save the Rebirth Process, and so the question was left: Was there a way to save the remnants of the human race without sacrificing their humanity?

One scientist known as Guileford-Lancaster declared that it was possible. Three years before the Digitalis Incident occurred, he brought out a complex experiment where he claimed that the 13th Deadline was completely extinguished. However, it required genetic samples from unknown, unclassed sources; a dangerous security leak that members of the Inner Council watched carefully. To prove his theory, Guileford-Lancaster made a public show of his experiment, declaring that "only the purest of genes could be used to save the Empire". Faced with this challenge to their honor (as well as a wave of public outcry), the Inner Council and the Godhead had no choice but to reluctantly hand over samples of their own DNA to Guileford.

To his credit, the experiment was a complete success: the Accretian borne as a result was completely free of the 13th Deadline. Guileford claimed that every Accretian, regardless of age or status, could avail of the treatment. Countless Accretians stormed over to gain their freedom from the genetic trap that held them, and it seemed that salvation for the Empire had finally arrived.

Then, without warning, the Digitalis Incident occurred. The firestorm of digital wipeout cut swaths in the Empire's ranks. Seemingly saved from the 13th, Accretians got drunk on the insensate pleasure of feeling and sensing through artificially enhanced stimuli. Finally realizing the danger of such a wave of anonymous unity, Kesar and the few remaining loyalists struck out against an invisible foe.

Official records state that Albertos fought with Kesar for control of Accretia's minds, but the truth was far darker: Albertos was really Guileford-Lancaster, compromised by the Herodians in some unknown way. Using the combination of the Whitewash Treatment and the Digitalis Protocol, he had managed to bring a whole Empire to its knees to sate his dark masters. Furious, Kesar waged an uncompromising war to save what was left of the Empire. At the brink of defeat however, Guileford commanded Flatline to head for Novus to continue his master's agenda, leaving Kesar behind on the spacedock to rebuild a shattered, dying race.

In the aftermath, Kesar learned the truth: Accretians could be saved, but only with an infusion of Herodian DNA and Force that left it all but subservient to its new master. It was a hollow salvation, and one that left a bitter taste in his mouth. In addition, Flatline was as powerful in combat as the Inner Council combined, and as cunning as the Godling; no detail was left to chance by the Herodians.

Today, Flatline is known to head the most powerful Turncoat group in the whole of Novus. Its mission is simple: destroy all opposition to the Herodian's ultimate victory. It is power incarnate, and it will dare anything and everything to achieve its goals.

    Notable Military Units - Bellato

Among the many military groups that have fought in the wars and on Novus, there are some special few of particular distinction. Such is their renown that they are easily known among the military forces of the three races, and are popular or infamous among the societies they come from.

    Draconis Alpha
    Size: 3 Companies
    Type: Armored Battalion
    Rating:
    1st Company - Elite
    2nd Company - Veteran
    3rd Company - Regular

    Background:

Draconis Alpha is one of the Federation's most reputable military units, known for both combat effectiveness and a unique image that makes it a favorite for any assignment which demands both technical proficiency and a neccesity for useful propaganda. This is because its members consists of a mix of troops from all roads of life, with a diversity that does not detract from its overall ability as one of North Group's best armored battalions.

In its most recent action on Novus, the unit had been tapped to conduct special "live fire" combat tests with the 3rd Gen MAU frame. It is suspected that intel leaks was the reason for the destruction of nearly half of the strength of Draconis Alpha's 3rd Company. Over the period of the next few weeks, the remainder of the experimental units, piloted by the rest of Draconis Alpha's 3rd Company, were extracted from Novus.

The repurcussions of those losses led to the temporary suspension of certain officials. While their 3rd Company has been withdrawn from the front on Novus, Draconis Alpha is taking action to exact vengeance on the Accretian units which ambushed their fellow Dracs. It is to be seen what this action is, exactly, but it is most likely to result in the deployment of 2nd Company to Novus' front lines.

Notable Members of the Holy Alliance of Cora

    Grenser Mirane
Second in command of the Cora Holy Guard.

    Name: Grenser Mirane
    Age: 122
    Gender: Female
    Class: Zealot
Rank: 6 Knots; Holy Guard Second-in-Command
Faction: Papal Court; Cora Holy Guard
    First Appearance: Implements of War

Grenser (pronounced "Grensah") Mirane is the second in command of the Cora Holy Guard. She is a very rigid and unforgiving Corite, expecting much from those below her in rank. No could dare answer back to her, however, because of her peerless talent in all combat aspects. Grensah is currently said to be one of the most powerful Corites in existence, though she denies this claim.

The Papal Council has bestowed upon her many medals for her numerous acts of valor in the many wars that she has been sent to. Almost all of her assigned military expeditions have been successful, with the few failures only due to direly hopeless circumstances and some "suicide" missions. Because of this, she has been rumored to be the reincarnation of the saint, Varuna, for her unique mastery of the three-fold essence of mind, body and soul.

Her offensive capabilities, combined with the Holy Guard commander's impenetrable defense make for a deadly combination.

    Lagros Kel
    Papal Court Scout Commander.

    Name: Lagros Kel
    Age: 174
    Gender: Male
    Class: Marksman
    Rank: 7 Knots; Scout Commander
    Faction: Papal Court
    First Appearance: System Crash

His peers could attest that Lagros' presence in any military campaign resulted in an unreal efficiency. His mastery of numbers has given him the capability to see the battlefield as a set of equations; his bullets never miss, and his tactics are precise to the millisecond. He is famous for coining the term, "Numeralchemy", the science of non-traditional arithmetic.

His expertise in number manipulation has made him somewhat eccentric, however. He frowns at people who waste their time, and leaders who do not have a sense of what they are supposed to do. Lagros contents himself with a few sarcastic remarks against them every so often, to the delight of others who are similarly as irritated.

In combat, he never fails to make a detailed analysis of the battlefield. Each action, whether it be preparation or implementation, and every bump and hole in the terrain, to him constitute parts of a massive equation leading towards victory. He recognizes that proper planning translates into accuracy and precision.

He takes much inspiration from the Veda, whose teachings he has closely studied for most of his life. His bow and his firearms are inscribed with Vedan quotations, so that even in battle, he may be reminded of his faith and of DECEM's presence.

Amongst the factions, Lagros maintains good relationships with the Papal Court and the Monk Council. Many are inspired by his battlefield insight, combat ability, and unshakable faith, of which the factions recognize and similarly praise. His exceptional numerical ability has gained him infamy amongst naysayers, who choose to believe that he is one of the leaders of the Calculus.

    Laien Sidar
Initiate of the Cora Holy Guard.

    Name: Laien Sidar
    Age: 60
    Gender: Female
    Class: Faust
Rank: 5 Knots; Holy Guard Initiate
Faction: Papal Court; Cora Holy Guard (Holy Guard Initiate)
    First Appearance: Implements of War

Having only been recently accepted into the ranks of the Cora Holy Guard, Laien believes that she has much to prove to her peers. The fact that she is still very young has added to her complex, making her accept almost all of the tasks given her. Surprisingly, her cheerful disposition never diminishes even when her work takes her towards the early hours of the morning. She is a very talented summoner, though her sword and archery are also passable.

Due to her relatively free-going attitude, she remains neutral to the factions, except for the Papal Council, to which she belongs to and to which she serves most loyally.

    Reitha Astralis
    Bishop of Aldir

    Name: Reitha Astralis
    Age: 124
    Gender: Female
    Class: Paladin
    Rank: 7 Knots
    Faction: Papal Court
    First Appearance: Novus Initiative

Background: A colleague of Novus Bishop Quiane Khan, Reitha has been tasked by the Dvija to be their personal envoy in the analysis of the Holy Novus War.

Besides managing and leading the Corite populace in the planet Aldir, Reitha is a distinguished swordmaster - even leading her own personal fleet onboard the battle cruiser, Arcturus (to the disdain of her conservative advisers, who constantly fear for their leader's safety).

She is greatly optimistic of the Novus affair in general, and sees in it a major opportunity to enforce their hold on the galaxy as a stronghold for DECEM.

History: Reitha Astralis was born in the year 8880, a time of rapid technological advancement for the Corites. With the launching of the first Corite interstellar vessel, the Will of DECEM, came a surge of interest in space exploration. As if truly the command of their god, the Will of DECEM heralded the beginning of Corite colonization and evangelization of other planets and races.

As a young girl amidst rampant developments, Reitha became engrossed in engineering and technical research. A noted technological genius, she would often be found listening to the debates of philosophers about mathematical equations, religion, and the Corite destiny. She would not see the mass vision of the Herodians from DECEM because of her lack of “faith” (only because she was far engrossed in her own practice). Her guardians, after much discussion with the rest of their community, decided that Reitha could no longer be allowed to be left alone to her own methods. They feared that she would grow up ignorant of DECEM and the Force.

By age 10, she would be sent off to the Augury Bastion, a House Ladenus military academy in the Vanir continent of Cora Prime. There, she would be trained in numerous combat styles and battle tactics, along with the usual, required Corite studies of mathematics, religion, and community.

It would also be during these early years of her development that she would meet Quiane Khan in one of their inter-class live combat sessions. With the two Corites on the top of their classes, it was clear to everyone that victory would rest on their hands. Eventually, Quiane and Reitha would be left the only ones standing in that exercise, but the two agreed to settle the match with a draw, allowing both classes to pass. It was an unparalleled event that left even the most senior Corite teachers amazed – at the same time, it would be the birth of a lasting friendship.

The War of Color would take over most of their learning, replacing much of their classroom lessons with actual, live combat. Although House Ladenus maintained mostly a neutral outlook on the war, they could not prevent it from spilling into their lands from time to time. Reitha would continuously prove her sword fighting prowess alongside Quiane, creating a formidable partnership of might and wizardry.

Upon graduation at age 45, Reitha and the graduates of her class would be assigned to the planet Aldir as part of House Ladenus’ expansion efforts, while Quiane would be sent on an inquisition about the root cause of the War of Color.

By age 60, Reitha would be designated the Bishop position, in light of her great labors in helping to create a peaceful, productive community in the Aldir planet. It would also be at this time that she would christen her own, personally designed battlecruiser, the Arcturus. This and other defensive preparations managed to save them from the massive Bellato assault during the year of 8988.

    Vanderion Ladenus
Scion of the Royal and Pontifical House of Ladenus.

    Name: Vanderion Ladenus
    Age: 160
    Gender: Male
    Class: Zealot
Rank: 7 Knots; Scion of Ladenus, Heir to the Throne
    Faction: Papal Court
    First Appearance: Novus Initiative
Special Weapon: Force Lance "Winter's Sharp Kiss" - a weapon made out of concentrated Force that could be brought to existence by Vanderion's psychic ability.

Count Vanderion Ladenus is a scion of the Royal and Pontifical House of Ladenus, a first cousin of the Crown Prince himself. In fact, when the Corite King disappeared, many in the Papal Court wanted Vanderion to be named Regent; instead, the Count loudly and eloquently proclaimed his subservience to his Royal Cousin, saying that he does not wish to lead but only to serve under the lawful King of DECEM's Holy Numbered. Many Corite elders nodded at the wise words from one so young, and many young Corite women swooned even more at such a beautiful, gallant and brilliant warrior.

He was born in the year of 8844, leading into the end of the Age of Quietism, exposing him to the furious debates amongst the conservative and liberal parties. Despite his royal bloodline, he was brought up normally within the community, and he spent his few years of childhood without event.

It would be ten years later when he would begin formal schooling in Augury Bastion, House Ladenus' prime military academy. Both teachers and students alike were awed by Vanderion's capacity to learn - his academic, religious, and combat scores were off the charts, almost threateningly so. Some teachers, insecure about the possibility of them losing their work or being dishonored, swore to make Vanderion's school life hard and unbearable. No matter how much they tried, however, Vanderion always managed to overcome the trials given to him with his ice-cool demeanor and unchallenged genius.

Eventually, he would finish all of the school's programs in only 15 years. Not satisfied with his learnings, he would continue on to finish most of the other advanced courses until age 40. He graduated with top honors and many special commendations, even holding most of the school's records in examination scores. As per the graduation program of Augury Bastion, he, together with the graduating batch, would be sent on a mission on a foreign planet.

The revelation of the existence of the Herodians four years later called for a halt to all existing Corite missions in other worlds, setting the racial leaders into turmoil. With the Papal Court seeking to bring peace, Vanderion would be sent back to Cora Prime to take over a small community. The people would get to see the real side of Vanderion at this point, as he led - the understanding, noble, honorable, and comforting side that was contrasted by his military and academic prowess. He led and managed as if he himself was a part of that community, never letting his royal destiny get in the way of doing what was just and proper.

Just when he would be appointed the formal Scion of the Royal and Pontifical House of Ladenus after proving himself in the political scene, however, the Corite race would find itself plagued by the massive internal rift brought about by the War of Color. He would find himself helpless to stop the war - even the community that he oversaw forgot of his presence. It became clear to him that the "call of DECEM" that both the Dark and Light Force proponents claimed to have heard would be greater than him or any other Corite. Angered and greatly distubed by this turn of events, Vanderion led the peace-keeping arm of the Papal Court, brandishing his mighty spear with the threat of death if either the Dark or the Light would not keep the peace.

Vanderion would go through the worst trials during the war, putting to the test all of his ideals. It sought to ruin him and his principles, but he held on by keeping his faith close to him. Once again, he would find himself as part of the minority when it was decided that the followers of the Light Force would be banished. He and the Corite King could do nothing but watch them leave, and for a moment, the homeworld appeared darkly.

Tales of Heroes I - Giz Kadasha

Following the recent rumours that emerged about reprehensible actions possibly perpetrated by the Bellatean and Corite heroes, The Novus Eye wishes to bring all Novus warriors more information about their respective heroes. Unfortunately, and despite their popularity, many aspects of their stories remain classified. We hope our series of articles will still let you discover some things you ignored, including the fact that having spent some long months together is not the more disconcerting aspect of the three heroes¡¯ lives. Ladies first, some used to say in ancient times, so let us begin with Giz Kadasha, from Cora.

As even the most illiterate Bellatean foot soldier should know, Corite society is organized around a caste hierarchy; the closer to the ruling caste a person belongs to, the closer she is to her god, Decem. As soon as he¡¯s born, a Corite is incorporated into a caste, based on his ascendance and potential to serve Decem as detected by the Dark Priest monitoring the labor and delivery. Displaying remarkable talent and devotion throughout his life, an individual can hope to achieve a higher station in the hierarchy, but this is a long and difficult process, and hopping from one caste to another is a very rare occurrence.

Corite society is based on a caste system of governance. This caste system is by abilities; the Corites are organised into their castes solely based on their relevant skills in life, their devotion and their dedication to Decem¡¯s will. In this way, the castes function much like that of old ¡®tribal clans¡¯ of legend where priests were of a higher station than warriors and they in turn were of a higher station than workers. One¡¯s strength in the Darkling Force and capacity to serve Decem and enforce His commands set their caste. The Spiritualist is the highest caste because they have the gifted strength in the Darkling Force.

The entire populous is grouped into one of these castes; once in a caste, the other members become your family, blood relationships are not a priority amongst the castes. Indeed, nothing is to be put before Decem, and marriage is not to be allowed because of the conflicts that could arise between family and god. Because everything Corites do reflects on she/he to their god, their children of course are a direct reflection on them. Seeking out the best possible mate to have children with is a very major decision. Corite children are raised in schools and only staying with their parents during vacations and Holy celebration¡¯s. The Corites use the term Sires for parents, not showing either one mother/father as more important than the other.

Vena Blaein. As it Shall Be: the World from a Corite Point of View. Bellato, Valhalla: Klenson University Press, 10782: 229.

Giz Kadasha never had to worry much about upward mobility. She was born of Dain, one of the most talented individual the Corites had ever known, and it was clear from the start that she had the potential to surpass even her mother in power. This was not to be an easy accomplishment, as Dain was a real prodigy: she became Matriarch at age 15, when others of her age were still trying to discover how to properly use whatever potential they could have and only starting to comprehend the extent of Decem¡¯s teachings.

A particular episode of Dain¡¯s life has turned into a kind of legend: a few months before she was made Matriarch, she had a meeting with Archbishop and member of the Holy Conclave, Mana. It is said that Mana¡¯s speech to Dain almost bordered on heresy, going as far as saying that questioning Decem and His teachings were a positive thing and that Accretians and Bellateans were far more logical and rational than Corites, who had turned faith into blind fanaticism. Nobody has ever been able to uncover what part of truth there was in this story. Some alleged that it might have been Mana¡¯s intent to fool Dain into making heretic statements that she could have turned against her, though reasons of such a crafty scheme remain unclear.

But whatever happened didn¡¯t turn Dain and Mana into enemies. When Dain gave birth to twin daughters, she oddly insisted that one of them, Kadasha, be not devoted to Decem as a Priestess, despite the obvious latent force that Kadasha seemed to possess deep inside her. She used all her power and vast influence to prevent her daughter from walking the path that should have been hers according to Corite customs. The Conclave and a large majority of Archbishops were infuriated by such a conduct, but the situation was somehow defused when Mana publicly supported Dain¡¯s wish.

However, the Holy Conclave decided that an individual with so much power and set aside from the path drawn by Decem for all Corites shouldn¡¯t be allowed to stay within the administrative center and place of power. And so Kadasha was exiled in a desolated part of the Cora planet, in a Bisk village.

The Bisks are presented by the Corites as an entirely separate race that they tolerate on their home planet only for the cheap labour, not much more than a slave race. But some Bellatean scientists insist that the two races are actually closely related, though one can wonder to what extent these scientists have been able to research the subject.

Kadasha acclimated surprisingly well to her new surroundings, befriending the Bisks to the point that she considered them as her own family. Growing up away from the Dark Priests¡¯ teachings, Kadasha retained only the bright and cheerful sides of the Corite religion. She considered Decem as the god of Nature and Beauty, as all Corites do, but also a merciful and nurturing deity. She also started to question the foundations of Corite society, thinking that people from the lowest castes or even outcasts were just as important in Decem¡¯s eyes, and that His love extended to everyone.

Of course, by voicing such ideas, Kadasha quickly attracted attention and support from the lower castes. Her popularity was growing as immense as her powers in the Force. If the Conclave had hoped that by putting her out she would be quickly forgotten, it was proving quite a failure... Did the religious authorities get worried of Kadasha¡¯s popularity? Did they fear she could become a danger to the established power, given the forces she could wield, both arcane and mundane, and the peculiar set of beliefs she came to build over the course of her years away from the Conclave¡¯s influence?

Finally, did they decide to get rid of Kadasha once and for all? That¡¯s what some observers assumed when the Holy Conclave appointed Dain¡¯s daughter to act as their representative on a negotiation with Accretians to be conducted aboard one of their ships. Needless to say, after the Inquisition took care of getting those mislaid souls back onto the right tracks, rare were the voices to question the Conclave¡¯s decision.

The object of the mission has never been disclosed, but it was about at the same time that the three races started developing diplomatic contacts that have never ceased despite the war. Every and all information regarding those contacts and their purpose is classified and only the highest ranking officials and militaries of the three races know about the truth. Experts in conspiracy theories believe that it might be related to some evil and terrible force lurking in the shadows and threatening to annihilate the whole galaxy, possibly the one Professor Saldash¡¯s Disciples are often talking about.

The meeting didn¡¯t quite go as one could expect from a diplomatic reunion, however. Corite authorities never disclosed whatever information they could gather on what happened, but the bottom line is that seeing her life endangered, Kadasha had to escape the Accretian ship. Moreover, an Accretian combat ship went after the fleeing Corite, a ship commanded by none other than Rotan the Third, the famous Accretian hero. As soon as Kadasha¡¯s escape pod reached Novus, soon followed by Rotan¡¯s ship, a whole Accretian fleet headed for the crash site.

It is believed that Sitz BeHammer, the Bellatean hero, witnessed the crash while on one of his exploration tours and tried to rescue Kadasha. What followed is unclear, but Rotan¡¯s ship went down just some moment after the Accretian fleet entered Novus atmosphere. Confusion and chaos ensued, and when the dust settled, the three heroes were nowhere to be found.

Headlines of the Decem Times - Special edition

    Kadasha officially declared KIA

It is not just a planet, it is an entire race across the galaxy that was plunged into mourning this early afternoon when a representative of the Holy Conclave officially declared Kadasha killed in action.

The daughter of famous Matriarch Dain had been MIA for some months now, after the escape pod in which she fled an Accretian admiral ship crashed on the Novus planet. Though she apparently managed to escape the trap set up by the perfidious metal beasts, the representative explained that new evidence indicated beyond any reasonable doubt that Kadasha had not survived the dangers of Novus. ¡°Decem bless her soul and may she rest in the glory of the True Faith unveiled¡±, concluded the representative.

After some long months of anxiety and distress came the official announcement of Kadasha¡¯s death... but a miracle that most of her supporters weren¡¯t expecting anymore happened soon afterwards. Kadasha was alive. Here again, the exact circumstances of her return and her actions during the time she was missing remain wrapped in secrecy, bust most sources agree on a few points: Kadasha seemed to have found her way back to Cora on her own, she most probably spent all that time on Novus along with BeHammer and Rotan, and relationships between her and Corite authorities appeared somewhat changed after her return.

The Conclave accepted Kadasha¡¯s staying in the capital city and didn¡¯t try anything to damper her popularity, but then again, they didn¡¯t have to, as Dain¡¯s daughter adopted a very low profile, despite the new respect she apparently earned from her adventure. Shortly after returning home, she volunteered to go back to Novus, as a guide and support for the Corite soldiers there. Since then, Kadasha is doing her best to help Corite warriors developing their strength and abilities, sometimes giving the strange impression that she is taking mental notes of who stands out, like actually selecting the most talented individuals.

Tales of Heroes II - Sitz BeHammer

Following the recent rumours that emerged about reprehensible actions possibly perpetrated by the Bellatean and Corite heroes, The Novus Eye wishes to bring all Novus warriors more information about their respective heroes. Unfortunately, and despite their popularity, many aspects of their stories remain classified. We hope our series of articles will still let you discover some things you ignored, including the fact that having spent some long months together is not the more disconcerting aspect of the three heroes¡¯ lives. Following Giz Kadasha, here is a bit of Sitz BeHammer¡¯s history.

After the revolution that put an end to the Larfath Dynasty, the new administrative center was established in Valhalla. People had so much resentment for the Larfath House that confiscated all powers and was plagued with greed and corruption, that Odin, the former capital city, almost faced destruction. Many viewed it as an architectural embodiment of the corrupted system.

Fearing the destruction of such a significant historic legacy, most scholars campaigned to save the city. They insisted on the importance of ¡°learning from the past¡±, however painful or shameful it could be. The city was spared and became a touristy destination of choice.

The city¡¯s misfortune was not over, though. Incomes brought about by tourism were barely enough to make up for the loss of its administrative center status, and when tourism activities plummeted due to the volatile diplomatic situation in the galaxy, bad got worse. From Odin¡¯s former splendour remained but a shadow and history.

All kinds of criminals and social outcasts flocked en masse to Odin and its surroundings; they started to build their own villages on the banks of the Naid River that runs through the city. Without any exterior help, they organized themselves, built their own machinery and equipment, and their micro-society soon became self-sufficient. They enjoyed the complete freedom of their lifestyle, outside the boundaries of Bellato laws and regulations.

It¡¯s there, in this very particular area of the Bellato planet, that Sitz BeHammer was born. More specifically, he is from the Heroes¡¯ Square neighbourhood.

    Heroes¡¯ Square

Heroes¡¯ Square is one of the major squares and one of the most visited sights of Odin. It lies at the end of the Union Avenue (former Larfath Avenue), next to Lante Park.

The central sight of the square, as well as a landmark of the city, is the Gloriam Memorial with statues of the twelve greatest Heroes of Bellatean history. Every one of them was erected during the hero¡¯s lifetime, or shortly afterwards. There are approximately 35 feet tall and face the center of the square where lies the statue of an angel spirit, blessing them all.

Despite the Larfaths¡¯ thirst for honor, they have always resisted the temptation to impose the presence of one of them amongst the heroes of the Gloriam Memorial.

The square gave birth to an interesting legend. Indeed, all the historical figures of the Memorial had grown up in the neighbourhood. As the legend of some kind of predestination appeared quite early in the history of the Memorial, one of them, who wanted so hard to become a hero, spent most of his early years wandering around the square, even though he actually lived 12 miles away. This proved enough to ensure perpetuation of the legend.

The statues suffered severe damage from the revolution, uneducated mobs mistaking some of the heroes for members of the Larfath Dynasty, but the newly established Bellato Union soon ordered their restoration. Since then, no new statue has ever been added to the Heroes¡¯ square.

Sitz BeHammer was raised by his grand-father who made a living, like many people in the Odin area, by buying and selling in the junk and salvage market. More than the used parts, salvaged parts, and junk materials, Sitz was thrilled by tales of famous Bellatean adventurers. When he was not helping his grand-father, he would spend hours sitting in the Heroes¡¯ Square, in the shadows of the statues, dreaming about their epic journeys and that, one day, he too would become a great explorer.

Contrary to other Bellatean children, BeHammer was not much interested in mechanics and MAUs, he¡¯d rather learn about history and geography, unknown places and alien races, but his best friend was the stereotypical Beallatean. Danan, so was her name, was one year older than him and already a techy extraordinaire, able to turn the most useless piece of junk into a high-priced sellable item. She was like an idol to other children, using her fists first, talking later, and being stronger than any other boy or girl of her age. But she, in turn, was fascinated by Sitz and eagerly listened to his dreams and stories for hours. She even had him promise that he would bring her with him when he finally sets out on an adventure.

Two years after Sitz BeHammer promised his friend, he managed to get two seats on a shuttle that was to bring pioneers to the new Bellatean settlements on the Novus planet. He was happier than ever at the perspective to go on such a travel with his friend, but when they arrived at the spaceport, Danan stopped cold at the boarding gate. Hesitant, she first pretended she couldn¡¯t find her boarding pass. However, when Sitz offered to help her search for it, she burst into tears.

She had to admit that she simply couldn¡¯t leave. Before her friend could say anything she gave him the key of a small exploration aircraft that was already in the shuttle¡¯s cargo hold and pushed him forward, through the boarding gate. Sitz just had the time to promise he would come back for her, at any cost.

On Novus, the Bellatean hero made a name for himself as a bold and knowledgeable adventurer. He explored all the uncharted regions of the planet, making a living of the information he gathered and archaeological treasures he could retrieve. Sitz BeHammer indeed made an extensive use of his friend¡¯s gift, that had become his most precious possession. He called the aircraft Danan, after the name of his friend. While he was not in the army, Bellato High Command was very interested in BeHammer¡¯s activities and in more than one occasion, they helped him conducting his explorations, either by granting substantial funds or dispatching some units for his protection.

One day, as he was adventuring solo in some unexplored canyon area, he came across an escape pod that had just crashed on the planet - the escape pod that Corite hero Kadasha used to flee from the Accretian ship. On the Bellatean side just as on the Corite¡¯s, information relating to what exactly happened next, remains classified. Sitz BeHammer was declared missing then officially deceased. Though he didn¡¯t have the same social status as Kadasha or Rotan the Third - the Accretian hero who went under the radar along with them during the long months that followed the incident - Sitz had become very popular over the years. Many a Bellatean was shocked at the news of his loss, and the whole race rejoiced when he suddenly reappeared.

The Bellatean hero declined any public comment on what happened to him. He also refused to go back to Bellato. Instead, he stayed on Novus and enlisted in the army. He proved worthy of being granted various privileges that he has been using to help his fellow warriors since then, behaving in a much similar way to Kadasha. Here again, observers couldn¡¯t help but notice that he seems to be pursuing some kind of secret agenda when dealing with the Bellatean soldiers.

Tales of Heroes III - Accretia - Rotan the3rd

Following the recent rumours that emerged about reprehensible actions possibly perpetrated by the Bellatean and Corite heroes, The Novus Eye wishes to bring all Novus warriors more information about their respective heroes. Unfortunately, and despite their popularity, many aspects of their stories remain classified. We hope our series of articles will still let you discover some things you ignored, including the fact that having spent some long months together is not the more disconcerting aspect of the three heroes¡¯ lives. Following Giz Kadasha and Sitz BeHammer, Rotan the Third concludes our series of articles.

With Rotan the Third, the issue of classified information that already prevented The Novus Eye to shed light on every part of Kadaha and Be Hammer¡¯s lives, takes on a new dimension entirely. If the Corite and Bellatean heroes¡¯ actions on Novus during the time they were declared MIA are unknown, their formative years and earlier position within their respective race is quite well-documented. That is certainly not the case with Rotan.

Accretian authorities never released any data concerning their hero, and it seems only a handful of individuals know all the truth about this mysterious figure of the Empire. Thus, most of what is known of Rotan¡¯s life comes from Bellatean or Corite researchers or Intelligence agents, as well as non-Accretian soldiers that fought alongside him. Just as Kadasha or Be Hammer, Rotan is unwilling to reveal much about his past. Assuming he was, it wouldn¡¯t help in learning more about his early years: Rotan suffered a memory wipe that left him oblivious of any and all events that occurred prior to a certain period.

The exact cause and circumstances of that memory wipe make for another mystery. It has been established however, that Rotan the Third was a prominent figure of the Imperium, and that he didn¡¯t share the general Accretian view on the diplomatic stance to adopt regarding the Empire¡¯s relationships with Cora and Bellato, that were degrading very fast at that time. Some assumed that the memory wipe was perpetrated by the hard-line supporters who wanted to get rid of too unpredictable and too popular a leader.

As a matter of fact, a virgin Rotan the Third was placed way down on the hierarchy ladder and assigned missions that looked like as many suicide runs. But if his memories had been taken away, his power, skills, and commanding aura were intact. Soon, the Accretian hero reasserted his pre-eminence through battles, winning against all odds. His popularity rose from its ashes, he was once again an influential figure of the Empire, and became known as the ¡°Imperial Eagle¡±.

    The Steel Eagle Fleet

The main Accretian fleet still was the infamous Golden Lion, but many rumours circulated about the fleet commanded by Rotan the Third. Amalgamation of ships of various calibres and purposes, his armada was known as the ¡°Steel Eagle¡±, after Rotan¡¯s own title - the ¡°Imperial Eagle¡±.

While its official assignment was merely to maintain public order within the outskirts of the Accretian Empire, the Steel Eagle fleet was obviously a force to be reckoned with. The rumours had it that Rotan¡¯s armada was actually assigned secret and overly dangerous missions, ones that were reputed impossible. Assumptions reinforced by the very nature of the fleet: it was the sole instance of an Accretian army corps including non-Accretians, that is, individuals who didn¡¯t go through the Albarium education and brains transplantation into mechanical bodies.

Where Accretian High Command was seeing cannon fodder to be used for suicide missions, Rotan saw a unique occasion to gather talents and skills from many different origins. A blend of remarkable individuals selected by trusted lieutenants across the entire galaxy.

As we have shown already, the Accretian Navy usually favours long range fighting and massive, frontal battles, to make the most out of its superior firepower. From the few reports that emerged, the Steel Eagle fleet operated in a different way. It was quite the opposite strategy actually. It seems that Rotan made an extensive use of guerrilla tactics and tended to adopt close combat fighting. Swift and unpredictable moves gave him the advantage of surprise, direct contact with the enemy enabled him to collect precious data that could be used immediately for more surprise attacks.

Chais Vellone. Crushing stars: the Accretian Navy. Bellato, Valhalla: Klenson University Press, 10793: 164-167.

    ------------------------------

Accretia High Command is not known for their leniencies towards officers who disregard the imperial canons of warfare, especially within the Navy. How come Rotan was allowed such leeway? The fact that his troops were mostly non-Accretians certainly played a part: having them charging into melee to complete high-danger missions was for the Imperium a good way to use those skilled but inferior individuals - to use and get rid of them all at once.

Analysts also pondered over a possible desire to eliminate Rotan the Third: sending him into desperate situations and hoping that his seemingly reckless tactics would bring his doom. But the Imperial Eagle always returned victorious. Despite the secret wrapping most of his missions, his charisma and stories of his achievements were gaining him unprecedented popularity amongst the regular Accretian troops.

His successes were slowly turning into a legend, a legend forged with the help of non-Accretian soldiers. Was it too much to bear for some high-ranking officials of the Empire? Was it decided to put an end to a movement that could have gone out of control? For the supporters of a conspiracy theory, the answer is obvious. According to them them, it wasn¡¯t just about killing an individual, it was about destroying a legend. The Imperial Eagle had to bite the dust. And that¡¯s the only possible explanation, they insist, for the order that Rotan the Third received: the Steel Eagle Fleet was to assault Novus.

    Sector B-71 Battle

Corite and Bellatean Intelligence services were well aware of Accretia High Command¡¯s intentions. The planet had been a strategic target for the Empire for a long time. To their surprise however, they were given all the time needed to set up their defence, and both armies got even more surprised when instead of facing cruisers¡¯ deployment and orbital bombardment, they got attacked by frigates and melee troops.

The Steel Eagle Fleet had been sent to conquer Novus. A fleet relying on mobility, surprise factor, and careful selection of its targets based on first-hand intelligence was ordered to take over a whole planet defended by two entrenched armies that were prepared to fight the whole Navy...

    Chais Vellone. Ibidem: 410.

    ------------------------------

Contrary to many of his men, Rotan survived, but the predictable defeat brought on cruel consequences. High Command assigned him to the Novus Special Forces, which meant that he would not be allowed to leave the surface of the planet anymore; though not official, it was to be seen as a punishment for losing the battle. Moreover, Rotan¡¯s formidable physical abilities were reduced to a standard level through various modifications of his mechanical body and electrosynaptic interface system. Nobody was ever able to uncover the truth about this radical change - some claim it was yet another sentence issued by High Command, while others say it was Rotan who acted out of guilt for losing so many soldiers in the battle. While such a feeling would have to be ruled out in the case of a regular Accretian, Rotan has actually displayed, on several occasions throughout his life, reactions and attitudes that are usually associated with beings of flesh, and inexistent within Accretian society.

His activities on Novus at that time are unsurprisingly classified, but it is said that Rotan conducted many operations in the Novus jungles, sometimes extending the time spent on the field beyond what was necessary to complete the official objectives. High Command had apparently decided to let the Imperial Eagle fall into oblivion on the unwelcoming planet. One day though, he was ordered to return to the main fleet, to attend a diplomatic conference with Corite officials, amongst whom Giz Kadasha... Many speculations have been put forth to try and explain that strange order, but no definitive evidence ever came up.

The rest of the story is known of anyone who has read about Kadasha¡¯s life, or rather it will look familiarly unknown. Something happened while on the Accretian admiral ship, that forced Kadasha into fleeing aboard an escape pod that crashed on Novus. A combat ship commanded by Rotan tracked her down, soon followed by an entire Accretian fleet. The combat ship somehow ended up totally obliterated, and Rotan was declared Missing then Killed in Action.

Accretians will be Accretians, so, obviously, his reappearance months later didn¡¯t give rise to any scene of jubilation, despite Rotan¡¯s immense popularity amongst the soldiers of the Imperium, but like the Corite and Bellatean heroes, the Imperial Eagle chose to keep a low profile. He remained stationed at the Accretian Headquarters on Novus, taking a special interest in monitoring the promising recruits¡¯ progresses...

    tolong seseorang menerjemahkannya jg...

Pertamanya mereka berhasil memukul mundur Bellato
Tetapi karena mereka tidak bisa menahan emosi mereka,
mereka jadi menyerang satu sama lain.
    Acretia pemerintahannya kekaisaran
    Cora pemerintahannya aliansi
Pemerintahan bellato itu monarki dan demokratis
