How do you guys learn English?

i learn english by watching TV, playing games, and reading english book

i learned english from everywhere, book, paper, film, school whenever, wherever...

Technically i never learned english intensively outside of the given curriculum.

It was a matter of habit... My dad (bless his soul in heaven) actually FORCED me into it, he would simply not talk to me UNLESS it's in English... harsh, maybe... but it was effective. While my mom and other siblings talked normally with me using Indonesian, my father would simply ignore me if i didn't address him or talk to him in English.

So even as a child i struggled to talk to my dad, i watched television shows such as the classic sesame street (back in the 80s) just to learn how to talk to my dad. I actually ASKED if i can come along as he met foreign business representatives, learning english by talking to his associates.

At first i thought he was being a damn cruel S.O.B. Only till i was in grade school that i've come to appreciate his "harsh kindness" and learn the true meaning of why he did that.

He didn't want me to be good in English. EVERYBODY can be good in English, he wants me to be able to communicate fluently in English, a little niche that most people seemed to have problems doing verbally.

My grammar sucked major balls, my spelling is sometimes whacked, hell, I'm struggling to even quickly type in english. But through his harsh methods, i spoke english fluently. Despite the grammatical errors here and there.

Now as i've moved on in life, and my english got better, both grammar and spelling wise. And every time i use it, i always thanked my dad for it.

That's how parents are, at first they seem to be doing things that you don't understand why or for what purpose. Only when you've moved far in life do you realize that for better or worse, they've tried their best to make you a better person.

I don't know if I should say English is my forte, I never thought of it that way nor feels like I have achieve anything in English. I believe procrastinating and pushing things to the limit is my forte, in fact it's most people's.

When I was 5, my grandmother taught me the simplest thing, she would call everything I saw in english. My first English class is back at the 3rd grade and I can proudly say I've passed it well. Then my father would also talk to me in English, whenever we had the time but my mother doesn't seem to fond of us doing this kind of conversation so we stop doing it except when I was having a 4 eyed conversation with him.

Later on I found this Internet thing to be quite useful, to gain many connection throughout the world, my first hope is to have a freeloading place everywhere. I'm cheap? You can say that again. I started small, with messed up grammars (I still do, but I don't really give a damn about it) and a lot of jumbled words. But finally I realize that speaking English is not about your grammars. It's just like our native language, if your conversation partner understand what you mean, so be it.

I learn english from i was still a child , learn english vocabulary in scholl .. But overall i learn from watching film and anime with english subtitle

Well, i learned english because of GAMES n ANIME

Anime = because of i wanna know the story, i usually search the mean of the words i didn't understand in the anime n games

But I do really jealous of those two who learnt from their parents .
Notwithstanding , I never regretted that god granted me such a great parents .
Instead I'll teach my kids someday .

But somehow I have zero interest in that language.

Yup, nowadays mandarin comes after english.
But somehow I have zero interest in that language.

idk about mandarin but i think it is demand of work in future
