The PSP2 is finally here. Sony revealed its brand new PlayStation Portable at an event in Tokyo today, giving us our first official look at the PlayStation maker's next bold foray into handheld gaming. Here are the first details.

Sony confirmed many of the features of the PSP2 that we've already heard in the form of leaks, rumor and speculation. The PSP2 features a high-resolution, touch-sensitive OLED screen that's larger than the original PSP screen, tilt-sensitive SIXAXIS controls, dual analog sticks, front and back-facing cameras, and a touch sensitive back panel.

The device features built-in WiFi and 3G wireless connectivity. Sony boasts that the new PlayStation Portable is as powerful as a PlayStation 3.

For now, Sony is officially calling the new PlayStation Portable by its codename, Next Generation Portable or NGP. It will be out this holiday.

Bagus juga tuh trik nya Sony, ngumumin NGP dekat sama waktu rilis nya 3DS.. Di Jepang sana, orang-orang yang semula ngebet pengen cepat beli 3DS malah pindah ngelirik NGP:

Strategi marketing Sony untuk mengumumkan New Generation Portable (NGP) pada momen mendekati perilisan Nintendo 3DS tampaknya mulai membuahkan hasil. Walau Nintendo optimis dengan potensi yang dihadirkan oleh 3DS, para konsumen yang menjadi target pasar mereka tampaknya sudah mulai mendua. Setidaknya itu yang terjadi di Jepang. Untuk mengetahui kepastian mengenai hal tersebut, Famitsu memutuskan mengadakan sebuah penelitian.

Memang tidak tertutup kemungkinan para gamer Jepang akan membeli kedua perangkat gaming portable tersebut, tetapi ketertarikan mereka terhadap NGP terlihat semakin menguat. Famitsu, majalah besar gaming di Jepang memutuskan untuk melakukan survei terhadap 1.208 gamer mengenai respon tentang “hadirnya” NGP di industri game. Dengan kemampuan yang berhasil ditunjukkan Sony melalui NGP, bukanlah sesuatu yang mengherankan jika 76, 2 persen responden menyatakan ketertarikan mereka untuk mendapatkan handheld ini. Hanya 7,9 persen yang menyatakan tidak tertarik sama sekali dan 15,9 persen masih ragu-ragu.

Ditanyakan tentang feature utama yang membuat mereka tertarik, sebanyak 680 responden tertuju pada kemampuan grafis setara konsol yang diperlihatkan oleh NGP. 622 responden melihat penambahan dual analog-stick pada mesin ini yang membuatnya menarik untuk dimainkan. Sedangkan yang lain lebih tertarik pada kemampuan resolusi layarnya yang tinggi.

Tetapi semuanya kembali kepada satu elemen kunci yang menentukan apakah sebuah perangkat gaming akan sukses atau tidak di pasaran, yakni harga. Harga yang masuk akal tentu saja menjadi bahan konsiderasi yang penting bagi para gamer. Sebagian besar menyatakan masih tertarik jika harga yang ditawarkan berkisar pada angka 30.000 yen Jepang atau US$ 350. Apakah Sony akan mampu menghadirkan teknologi tinggi tersebut dengan harga tersebut? Mungkin saja.

[E3 2011] PlayStation Vita is Sony’s PSP NGP now, starts at $249 for the Wi-Fi and $299 for AT&T 3G model

Sony has officially launched their next generation portable gaming device, complete with a price tag, launch date (sort of) and a new name. Hitherto known as the NGP, the device shall now be known as the PlayStation Vita or PS Vita, as Sony likes to call it, although I personally much prefer saying PSV. For those curious, Vita means ‘Life’ in Latin.

As you may already know, the PS Vita has a quad-core ARM Cortex A9 CPU, SGX543MP4+ GPU, a glorious 5-inch, 960 x 544 AMOLED touchscreen display, a multitouch capacitive touchpad on the back and front and rear cameras. There’s also stereo speakers, gyroscope, accelerometer, digital compass, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS and 3G connectivity built-in.

The Wi-Fi only model will be selling for $249 whereas the 3G model will be exclusively available on AT&T in the US for $299. Sony hasn’t given an exact launch but it will be out in time for the holidays. So while you wait for it, check out some of the videos of the upcoming titles for the PS Vita.
