watch a movie but don't look the subtitle too often, or, if you want, disable the subtitle may help you much focus in listen & understand what actor/actress talk about.
i played playstation since kindergarten like a freak for around 4years without tuition or lessons, without realizing my english was good ^^
Simply from gaming especially from J-RPG and as always, practice...
i learn english from my mother when i was two, and i tell you, the result is amazing
and i read a heck lot of novels, lost of films.. and you know, those RPG game we all played..
Just don't be a such like sloth. Bring and often open the translator we called "kamus"
Well I learned it from watching a lot of western Movie......sometime's watching Tv is not such a bad Idea.... lol!
i read dictionary as a personal entertainment sometimes.. wkwk. sometimes it's just fun to scan the dictionary with your eyes & find a word you've never knew bfore..
i learnt english from magic english wkwkw.. you know, from disney.. my dad bought alotta that when i was in the kindergarten..
@gc, yes i can, if we learn just by speaking and reading, we never know what the mean for. For me, dictionary keep 70% part of english, and the rest like grammar, vocab etc keep only 30%.
just be confident.. dont stop writting, listening, and most important, talking in english, even when your friends keeps telling you, that you cant do english at all.. ignore em.. and jst be confident.. ;)
easier way is by watching and listening to english songs and watch west movie like G.I joe,TF2 and more..
and if you can don't listen to much indonesian songs because learning 2 language at once is hard
because men's brain can't use both right and left side of their brain at once because the connector between the brain are/is smaller than woman's
I prefer listening... you know, a lot faster than DICKtionaries..
but well, not everyone is audio learner as i am. those who prefer DICKtionaries is most likely to be the visual learner..
@:pone:
i love Gi Joe... :plove:
Yeah, I agree.. watching TVs, for me, is the biggest source of english.. It teaches you pronounciation, vocabulary--and also the usage of course.. And, it also teaches you to listen. There is only one flaw in learning-from-watching-tv; and that is word-spelling.
I play a lot of RPG games on PC and PSX, they help me to learn english, when i find a new vocab i don't know, i will open a dictionary just to know the meaning of that words. Believe it or not, I love reading grammar book, and I think, the structure of english is pretty interesting, and there are so many strict rules in order to write or speak English correctly. It's not about sentence, like the order of Subject Verb Noun to be a good sentence. But it's more likely to be a structure that u must know and aware about it. Finally, to be a good English, u must think before you speak, that's the part i like. Although Australian-English, Singaporean-English, etc doesn't really care about it. It's just an opinion, nothing personal. :Kyaa::Kyaa:
when i still child i like to playing games ... it's really improve your vocab ... trust me ^^ ... but the hard one from english is grammar ... i admit im really suck on my grammar ...
I study english with course every monday and wednesday, but play a lot of games is my cause to be good in english
how to improve ur english?
read!but don't read childish books like Disney Comics :ppuke:
read english novels
I recommend Anthony Horowitz' Alex Rider series
read Stormbreaker and Point Blank...those are okay for people with a level of moderate vocab but bad grammar
it's hard to find in Gramedia, but Kinokuniya has some...
as u read, u will catch the grammar structure and unconsciously use what u read in the book in everyday english
for those who are in high level english
read Dan Brown novels like Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons
works for me
I learn it from games, internet, school, film, comic.
I learn from game.. since child i always play games.. start from nintendo - super nintendo - ps - ps2 - pc
=.=a
that's why my english kinda good :D
I guess I have to give much credit to my English course, then my English teacher at school and university, then last but not least, my parents who gave me the opportunity to study in both of them.
now that I have no more english lessons at university nor english course (i have finished my english course), I usually improve them by reading certain books/articles that are written in english, if I find any difficult words shall I read dictionaries and find their meanings.
mostly i learned English from film. i made myself to watched movie with English subtitle.
I think I learned English from English Course, Especially with my teacher, at LIA Kelapa Gading.
Firstly I know English since I was at Elementary School.. I wanted to study more in Junior High School..
And my English teacher gave me chance to join the English Expression Day at SMAK 7 Cipinang which my school had the 2nd place from that tournament :)
After-more, I was learned and learned more for English well.. Really want to go overseas and have a job from there..
i learned english byself.... just watch movie with subtitle english.... so my english just so so..... :D
movie and songs :).. that was really helping y'know..
by watcing movie and playing games alot
i just joined EMECC
i think it has a good lesson
simple .
internet forums , games , social , school and movies . those are all the activities that made me speak better english in order to communicate with many people from around the world today .
i strongly encourage indonesians to speak english , everything will be convenient .
remember , there are 2 types of english .... american and British english .
i speak british english .
like i say 'can't' , it sounded like '****' ....not sounded like "cain't" or "ken"
Can't in American is say "kant" same with British....
The sound in British and American aren't differ too much but the write of British and American have many different... Like "Colour in American" but "Color in British"
There are sounded same = "kuhl-er"
@Stee
Use Multi-quote toll and don't double posts...... :Peace:
i think many of us learnt English from games, or at least some of us practiced their English by playing games.. That's why i kind of annoyed if people disrespect games & gamers, but they can't use English well..
I remember saying can't with American dialect, and my British teacher couldn't hear it well.. He keeps asking me 'what did u say?'.. hahha
