Definitely, i learnt english : not from school
1st step, knowing english from parents, second, friends or i'd rather say classmate
third, games - anime - manga - films - song - books - etc

Remember that we can learn from everything.
When I was at Junior High School, I had a gang-mate who was very weak at English subject. But he was a maniac of PS game. & it helped him to improve his vocabs little by little.
school and also by my super mom =p
i learn it from cartoon when i was a kid... hha

lots of stuff, my mom is a English tutor, so i learn a lot form her when i was young. the best teacher to learn English is movie :)
by school and english lesson of course. but i mostly learn by doing. i learn english by speaking with each other.

I originally did not like English because I was bored when I was taught by the teacher .....
But now .... like it or not I need to learn English in order to better understand the language used in a game that mostly use English ......
Especially when I play DotA using english ..!

Can i share my experience learning English too ?
On my first day on Junior High School,I have no idea about English.Perhaps you could say the only words that i knew was "i love you" hehe
like everyone else, i do afraid when it comes to English lesson.On second years i had to transferred to outside Java island due to my father job as a Soldier.I guess that time was a turning point, from me being someone who doesn't know about English to someone who had interest learning English.So you may ask how do i learned English ?
the answer is i learned it by myself,it was because my curiosity with every new words i found on my English learning material books.When i found a new words on the sentences,i started to guessing whats does the word means.Then it become a habits of mine,since that time i feel English is way more fun.Perhaps you could say I'm the one who can smile when it comes to English tests (on our school)
as for you know,I never entered the English courses.So basically my English skills comes from what I've learned at school.
My hobbies is reading Manga,and it really helps me to improve my English skills.

i don't know why but it is harder to listen and understand what people say in english in real life rather than watching some movies or some tv program.
if we want to improve our english so its best to say that we'll need to go abroad

I just learn english from games....(many people/gamers feel this way)
I didn't know when exactly I could write/talk in english...but if I remember correctly...
I started to feel that "I understand english" is on 3rd grade elementary school...
weirdly enough...I remember that i'm really scared whenever there's an english test on mty 1st grade....(I'd even hide in the toilet when English lessons start :P)
i've been learning english since i was 8 years old (now 21), @ Victoria English Institute, then The British Institute..
now i only study from my english lecturer :P
i usually practicing english by watching movie ( absolutely without Bahasa below it )
and try again and again speaking english

Just watch a lot of english movies, or listen to lots of english songs for pronounciation
Read english literatute for spelling, grammar and vocabulary.
i learn it from anime and RPG games.... and of course i learn most of it from an english course...
it would be troublesome if i can't speak in english... though i can only speak slang language right now....
