Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Manchester United are suffering from fatigue and insisted that this was evident in their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool yesterday.

Rafael Benitez’s men enjoyed an emphatic win at Old Trafford to reduce the gap at the top of the Premier League to just four points, albeit having played a game extra.

Liverpool enjoyed an extra day’s rest compared to United, following their Champions League games in midweek, and also enjoyed a rest last weekend after being knocked out of the FA Cup.

Wenger believes these factors were crucial in yesterday’s game and, speaking to arsenal.com, he said he also believed the title race was back on.

“It is, yes. I think Man United have played many games since January and today they looked a little bit jaded,” said the Arsenal boss.

"You could see that Liverpool didn’t play in the FA Cup last week and they had a good opportunity to refresh before playing Real Madrid and Man United. Plus they had one more day than Man United did.

“You could see when the experienced United players make mistakes it is down to fatigue.”

Arsenal have no such problems at the moment and have a fresh look about their squad after welcoming Eduardo and Theo Walcott back from injury. Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor are also due to return soon..

This new found verve was evident yesterday, as they cruised to a 4-0 win over Blackburn Rovers, a win that has moved them back up to fourth in the table.

Although they may lose that position if Aston Villa beat Tottenham Hotspur today, Wenger said that he was confident his team could beat Martin O’Neill’s men to the last Champions League qualifying spot.

“We know that every game is a challenge,” he stated.

“Before we start to dream, we play every three days and we can rotate a bit at the moment.

“We have a challenge in every single game, from now until the end of the season, and we cannot drop off one or two per cent in our performances. I feel in the dressing room that the team are really up for it.”

Arsenal play Hull City in the FA Cup on Tuesday night, before travelling to St James' Park to play Newcastle United on Saturday.
