DotA's Finest Players of 2008 by myMYM

The year 2008 has finally come to an end and myMYM.com has produced the ranking of the year's best DotA players as a recap of the wonderful memories of the past year.
Some players excelled to the point where they got awarded multiple titles, while some dominated one and only category - as DotA is a teamgame where a team consists of 5 players of which each plays a different role, it is nearly impossible to have a player win multiple categories.

Who owned the most? Who bought the most wards? Who was the most dominant on ventrilo? Who farmed the most? Meet the creme de la creme!


Method; (Top 5 Ganker, Support, Carry and Leader):

1. 20 respected individuals from IDEC were interviewed to list down their personal top 5 support,carry,gank, and leader.
2. After all 20 members have responded, the results were summarized and analyzed to create the ranking. Individual with the highest vote will be ranked number 1 and individual with the 2nd highest vote will be ranked number 2 and so forth.

Errors and bias are unavoidable but with a big sample size like this and by asking responsible members, the bias is highly reduced.

Top 5 Gankers

The new 6.56 map is constructed in order to promote ganking. Ganking here means the ability to seize map control, hunting the enemy heroes and warding/dewarding process. Today, myMYM is be announcing the top 5 gankers of the year by popular demand.



Rank 5: Rush3d.pgg



Being the true strategist for Rush3d, PGG's map awareness is unfathomable. Although PGG is normally seen using a solo-carry hero, he does use some ganking heroes occasionally such as Lina and it is not a pretty sight for his opponents.

Rank 4: Ks-Yamateh



Due to the merging of the late Zenith and Ks, Yamateh has dramatically changed his role from main carry to ganker. Awarded the fourth best ganker, the fact that Yamateh playing ganker is plain scary. Yamateh arguably plays the best Lina in the world which is able to kill Queen of Pain before she blinks.
Besides that, Yamateh proved to the world recently that he's worthy to be ranked this high in a game of the lower brackets of Pride 11 where his Tinker single handedly took control of the map.

Rank 3: Ks^vigoss.ru



Although vigoss only appeared in early and late 2008, his ganking ability is still memorable in most as this is one of the big factor in Virtus.Pro dominance over three Pride championships last year.
Vigoss currently resides in Ks.International after pledging his loyalty to Eryc and will be permanently playing the ganking role for the team.

Rank 2: DTS|Dendi



Dendi is renown for playing clutch heroes which often just happen to be gankers. With his agressive style, he always makes sure that you pay for every mistake you make - despite his real life height, which has been subject to many jokes in the DotA community.

Rank 1: MYM|MaNia-



Our best ganker of the year goes to MaNia. He has been a long time member of MeetYourMakers and has tremendously improved over time. MYM has been the team to beat at the moment and one of the reasons for that is because of MaNia taking up the ganking role. MaNia's instinct and bold confidence is very appraisable leading him to perform fruitful suicide ganks. Be it reckless or accurate, MaNia is truly a worthy ganker to be ranked best.

Top 5 Carries

Carry here normally refers to lategamers that are able to ensure victory later in the game by being the hero with the highest damage output per second. Main skills involved here are last hitting, survival, and map awareness.



Rank 5: Rush3d.Light



LightOfHeaven has always been known as a huge farmer since the day he came into competitive gaming. Playing in Rush3D after leaving Say_Please and Virtus.Pro, Light has finally found a team that suits his hardcore farming and leaving his team to 4v5 playstyle. Due to this, Light's worthiness to be ranked as number one was challenged but Light has never failed to impress the world what he can do with a simple carry hero.

Rank 4: SK-Loda



Loda, nicknamed God L in China, is ranked 4th in top carry player of 2008 despite SK's poor performance lately. This Lord of the Rings fan has never failed the community in delivering the "OH" factor while carrying SK in the early days of 6.52e.

Rank 3: Ks^KuroKy.aq



Kuroky started his career as a carry player when he joined Mouz a few months ago. Besides battling against his raging teenage hormones, Kuroky is a player that knows how to keep it cool and farm safely even if the situation turns ugly. His calmness and last hitting ability has brought his new home, Mouz, to a whole new level and arguably the best in .52e.
However, Kuroky has moved to Ks.International together with the rest of his teammates and although the lineup is still unstable, KuroKy will probably resume his role.

Rank 2: Ks-Yamateh



Although nominated as one of the best gankers of 2008, Yamateh is again voted to be one of the best carries around. Yamateh's ability to farm has always astonished the community and said to be near godlike. Even though Yamateh's role has recently switched to ganks for his team, his farming skills with the heroes assigned are still un-imaginable.

Rank 1: MYM|Fear



Fear is an oldtime favourite player and widely known as a good farmer. Even when it was back in version 5.84, Fear was already popular for his farming ability with his infamous Clinkz rushing a Rapier Aegis build. Coming back into the competitive scene via MYM, Fear is now proving to the world that he still has it in him to incite fear among his opponents.

Top 5 Supports

Support players also referred to as team players are the ones protecting the carry heroes while trying to stay alive themselves. The support role involve survivability, awareness, warding and sacrificial.



Rank 5: Fnatic.melen



Besides being an extremely nice and responsible guy, Melen played a sick support role that led Fnatic to victory at MGC, China recently. Although, Melen has retired from gaming not a while ago, he will be forever remembered as the support player that brought glory to the Indonesians.

Rank 4: DTS|Axypa



Axypa is one of the rare breed of support players where he's naturally aggressive instead of staying passive. To suit his personality, Axypa is often seen with heroes that have high nuking abilities such as Zeus and Lina. However, he uses these heroes to mass wards instead of ganking.
Due to his aggressiveness, Axypa is one of the guys that you want him to be in the lane with as he will keep the enemy at bay while you free-farm.

Rank 3: SK-Hailo



Hailo is a new addition to SK this year. Although not known in the competitive scene before then, Hailo has made an impact in SK by being a great support player. Hailo is famous for his survivability and map awareness while protecting the carry hero. He would also take the death for the team if he has to.

Rank 2: Rush3d.NS



Coming in at second is our beloved NightSniper from Rush3D. NS has been known for his support role long time before he joined Rush3D and was a major factor in Virtus.Pro domination a year ago. In Rush3D, NS is always seen playing the role of warder and babysitter for huge farmer such as Light and/or PGG.

Rank 1: MYM|PusHer



Pusher is a new addition to the MYM team in place of LevenT. Pusher's first appearance for MYM was during ESWC Master of Paris where MYM needed another man to fill up their roster for the tournament. The first person that came to Maelk's mind was Pusher-Street.
Pusher is well known for his ability to ward and although he ends up feeding most of the time, he will never fail to give his team the map vision they need to win the game.

Top 5 Leaders

Leadership is of upmost importance in judging the performance of a team. Good and unexpected strategies always provide the team a slight edge over their opponent in any circumstances. Check out the top 5 leader of 2008.



Rank 5: Ks-papaxiong



Although often hidden in the shadows of Yamateh, it was soon obvious that Papaxiong has a very big impact on Kingsurf's successes at ESWC, some Asian tournaments and recently Farm4Fame #3 by being the main brain of the team and support player for huge carry like Yamateh. Kingsurf is famous for its unorthodox strategies and drafts are just a part of Papaxiong's plans. With the new addition of players from Zenith, Papaxiong's role did not change as a leader and a support player.

Rank 4: Fnatic.RitteR



Leader of Indonesian powerhouse Fnatic (XcN before that) has no doubt had a succesful tenure with the team this year, as the team got signed by Fnatic organization as well as it won the MGC among other tournaments, most of it thanks to Ritter's leadership and performance.

Rank 3: SK-Loda



Ranked as our 3rd best leader of 2008 is our mighty "GOD L" from SK Gaming. As planted in the depths of our heart, SK's dominance during mid-year is due to quick adaptation to the new 6.52e version and guess who is the main brain behind that?
Maelk's quote, "take Loda down and SK goes down" is proven to be very true indeed judging from Loda's performance this year.

Rank 2: Drayich



Few months ago, Drayich has announced his inactivity due to some personal issues that he had to attend to. Drayich first became the leader of Mousesports after he left SK Gaming. During his era as the leader of the mice, Mouz stood high among the others to be the team to beat, winning multiple tournaments and being arguably the world's best in 6.52e.
Referred to as "papa Drayich" from his fellow teammates in Mousesports as well as numerous fans, the departure of their leader is very noticable. Soon enough, Mouz has decided to drop its DotA team. Although his teammates, KuroKy, Miracle, Twistd, and LevenT did not stop playing, they are eagerly anticipating Drayich to return.

Rank 1: MYM|Maelk



Nobody with a sane mind would have not thought Maelk to be the top leader of 2008. This long time leader of MYM worked hard all these years to keep the team running. MYM managed to display some spectacular performance throughout 2008 winning numerous tournaments such as ENADC and Dreamhack Winter with a stand-in.
