Mancini: "Hard game against Atalanta"

APPIANO GENTILE - Roberto Mancini answered questions from the press in a news conference after today's training session and ahead of Saturday's Serie A visit of Atalanta.

Mancini, how have you prepared for the game against Atalanta?
"We have just done what we usually do, and nothing else. The only problem is that we still haven't all seen each other because the Brazilians, for example, got back very early this morning and went to rest after a brief training session."

How important are the recoveries of Stankovic and Materazzi in terms of the extra incentives for the team?
"They are important but I still don't think they are at their best, and for both players we will make a decision tomorrow on whether to bring them on the bench or not. We'll take all the time we need to think about it, and then we will decide. It's important to have everyone back because we have so many matches from now until the Christmas break."

Will you rest any of the internationals against Atalanta tomorrow?
"I want to see all the lads before deciding. I want to wait until tomorrow to see how they all are. The Argentines seem okay and tomorrow I have to see the Brazilians, but they told me they're okay."

What kind of Atalanta team are you expecting tomorrow evening?
"They have always made it hard for Inter when they have come to play at San Siro. They're doing well and things seem to be going better from them away than at home. Also, they have a good coach and it will be a hard game for us because we have only had all our internationals back today. We'll have to play a great game to win."

Are you thinking of resting Zlatan Ibrahimovic ahead of the Champions League and next weekend's match in Florence?
"Tomorrow's match is important too. Zlatan trained a bit with us today and also did a 'warming-down' session. I will talk with him tomorrow and look at his physical condition."

What will it be like to start playing again after the hell of these last weeks?
"It's hard to say what you feel in certain moments. As always happens in life, one thing ends and you go ahead maybe without thinking about what happened. In this situation the only ones who have lost something are the family of the boy from Rome, so out of great respect for them I don't want to say too much about this matter. Also, it's hard to change things in Italy; the same things happen every year even if you try to improve."

Italy qualified for Euro 2008 in midweek...
"Congratulations to them because besides the victory in Scotland, I believe Donadoni has done a great job. You obviously judge everything by the results, but Italy did well before the Scotland game and you also have to consider that it's never easy to do well after a World Cup, especially after you have won it."

Is there a national team player that you would like to bring to Inter?
"They are all great players in the national team, and their teams don't easily let them go. It's hard to name one because they are all important, and it would be hard to fit them into the Inter team. And if I said a name... Toni? Let's say that Toni would be fine; he has just joined Bayern Munich on a long contract, so he can't leave... But there's also De Rossi, Buffon and Barzagli who have done very well..."

What do you think of England's failure to qualify for the European Championship?
"I honestly think England have a team that could have got through and gone on to win the European Championship. I think they're a very strong team and they could have reached the final along with Italy. But I don't know they reasons why they didn't qualify."

Do you think Fabio Capello has the qualities to coach the English national team?
"Yes, I do. Capello has the qualities to coach the English national team."
