Jason "Chu" Park Jaehyung is perhaps the one and only Korean DotA Star in the competitive DotA scene. His talent remained hidden until the formation of Canada Team Pandemic which sadly disbanded. He was the core member of TPD, and is now the one of The Pouncing Ligers.

Chu showed that he inherits the Koreans' gaming talent as well as a characteristic that has been commonly associated with Asian players - ability to rice massively. He and his team received more recognition by beating MYM in the the final of the latest F4F tournament. He is also renowned in the DotA community for playing arguably the best Mee...- Chupo out there. In this article, Chu is going to share some of his thoughts with us.

Please briefly introduce yourself for all your fans out there!

Hi, I am Chu and I come in peace.

Do you like your nickname given by your friends "chupo" and why are they calling you like that? And some people calling you "ChuChutrain".

To be honest, I don't want to be called chupo, but I would like my Meepo to be called chupo, because I know my Meepo is something more. Haha, I don't really care much about what people call, except noob. I hate being called noob.

Do you play other games besides DotA?

Oh ya a lot of games for example Starcraft, Diablo II, numorous Korean MMORPG games and Warcraft III. Oh I forgot CS, I rape with scout.

Who is Chu outside DotA?

Outside DotA, I am one of those typical Koreans who mostly hang out with other Koreans, likes to go out for dinner, karaoke, drinking etc. Most people will get the impression that I am a fob, and I usually don't let that impression down.

Apart from gaming, what are you doing?

Yeah I was going to University taking Mechanical Engineering. But there is no way I can play competitive DotA while going into all my classes.

Do you have a special other half? girlfriend / gay-mates / anything?

Zomg.. gay-mates -_-. No girlfriend at the moment!

Any specific requirements to become your girlfriend?

Yeah she has to be Korean, like singing and be able to enjoy my jokes.. and of course not ugly! Pretty important!

Korean... so Mariah Carey is out?

DotA and The Pouncing Ligers

How did you get into online gaming and why is DotA the game you stuck to?

Um.. well.. I'm not entirely sure. If you are a Korean living in Canada, it's really hard not to get into computer games. Most Koreans play games, most play for fun, really few play for real. And I guess I'm that "really few". Why DotA is the game I stuck to? The best part of competitive DotA is that it uses the brain, and I do like to think of myself as a player with a brain.

You are trying to get Korean Starcraft players into competitive DotA, is that right?

LOL I wish. It's half joke / half wish, which cannot be carried out in reality. There is this game called "Chaos" which is a lot like DotA and most Koreans play that game instead of DotA. It's a Warcraft custom game as well, and there are so many pros playing that game with crazy imba micro. If I wanted to bring people into DotA, I'd try to invite pro Chaos players into DotA. But that will take a long long time and require me to live in Korea, because the time difference is like 14 hours, when it's day here, it's night in Korea.

A lot of people have been wondering about this. Since you guys are pretty much EG.DotA now. Why play under the name The Pouncing Ligers?

To be honest, I have no idea whatsoever why we are not tagging up, but I can throw a guess at it. I think the team is still checking for possible recruits, so that when we actually tag up, the team will be solid and many games be won.

Who came up with the team name The Pouncing Ligers?

I don't know, I wasn't there when this team name was created. If I was, it'd be more Asian than this. Like, "The Bouncing Kimchi", something along that line would be sufficient for my taste.

What is everyone's role in the new team?

Remstar will probably play DPS heroes, Stripez and LastHitMagiC will play gankers/initiator, Fanatic will play Warlock/ES, mO will play DPS sometimes or support heroes, and I'll play anything except ward *****. And yea, Fanatic is a super duper Warlock, I hope he plays Warlock forever.

What is the team's aim in the near future?

The first and foremost goal here is to attend every possible online tournaments, as well as LAN events. We'll definitely have to work our asses if we want to win anything though because we are lacking alot of teamwork, the only thing holding us together is LastHitMagiC running around like a madman IMO.

Can you give us a brief description of your current and former teammates?

• wtfGuineaPirate/mO: mO is a black guy who is pretty easy-going, he has fat fingers tho.
• Fanat1c: He is from Poland, his accent is funny.
• Stripez: Stripez is a feeder, but he rocks in pubs for sure.
• LastHitMagiC: I like how LastHitMagiC plays, he roams like it's his job.
• Remstar/ JohnnyUtah: I haven't play much with Rem, can't say much except he is a great Naix player.
• Samurai: He is like, I don't even know his origin but he looks like Ghandi.
• AMXZaku: Zaku is a Chinese guy who is very close to something we refer as a "******".
• ZhaoYun: A Chinese guy who likes to farm, enjoys farming, and his hobby is farming.
• Eddie: Another Chinese guy who is prolly the oldest in the game, but childish as hell and he chokes in games a lot.
• Desrow: He's fat, enough said.

The Conclusion

What was the feeling to beat MYM in the last series of F4F?

I was happy beating MYM. Same goes for any top teams for that matter. A huge portion of the winning factor goes to the hero Chen, and a player who can handle it very well. The thing is, we have not planned anything specific for this final match, and 1st/3rd matches were won quite easily to my surprise. I think the games were won based on drafting / superior ganking.
Of course, second game went really bad, I mean fanatic Visage (wtf?) and me Earthshaker (a hero I play once a year) was just too much. And MYM played their heroes quite well as well.

Do you think your nationality might be a factor for your crazy micro ability?

I strongly believe that the Korean blood inside me enables my intense micro with heroes such as Meepo. Many koreans are known to have pin-point accuracy when it comes to sports such as Archery, and meticulous techniques such as sky serve in pingpong are easily seen in a korean elementary school gym.

A new year means a new resolution. What resolution do you have set for 2009?

I will just lay down my resolution for dota. My personal goal is to make 2009 a pinnacle in my competive dota career. That's why I'm glad to be part of EG, as we will be participating in couple of big lan events!

mO: chu is a fob, we had to add march to the team so he can translate what hes saying since we dont understand him 99% of the time. For real, realy nice guy that brings nothing but positive things to the team.

Desrow: Yes, i am the one who started the chupo thing cuz i believe chu is the greatest chupo(meepo cuz actually meepo should be renamed chupo !) Chu is really dedicated and has great idea, i have no idea what team Korea would do without him and same for our team. If u doubt chupo cannot raise his power level over 9000, just watch him play meepo or luna.
