PS3 Europe launch may be delayed again?

Europe has been really getting shafted in the console wars with constant delays, releases after other continents, and even the prices for the systems are becoming ridiculous. It wasn’t too long ago that Sony’s crew stated that the PS3 Europe launch would not hit their target for a tri-continent release but instead be delayed until March 2007. Spanish gaming site MeriStation, is claiming that Ken Kutaragi stated that the launch date for the European community could end up being in May. This is mainly due to the fact that current Japanese and US launch problems and shortages would adversly affect the European launch also. If this happens, I think it could be a real huge problem for Sony and definitely lose a lot of footing in the console wars.

There is no conclusive or hard evidence that this is true except for the fact that MeriStation is a pretty huge and notable site (in Spanish of course). I don’t see why they would randomly post that and even affect their credibility but I have seen much worse happen when it comes to gaming rumors. For example, Vibe magazine stating that the Wii would only be $150…we all saw how that turned out (Damn you Vibe, got my hopes up!). With all this re-accuring bad news for Sony, it will surely hurt their share in the market for right now. Their biggest problem is that they are going to miss out so much on the holidays especially when a new system is being released near the same time to compete with them. Cutting out a huge portion of your sales (Europe) is definitely a big hit. I know my European friends and even staff member Chris who is from England, are extremely aggravated with all of this news. Sony has to step it up!

UPDATE: Sony is “categorically” denying that there are going to be further delays for their PS3. Sony crushing that spanish site’s credibility, one word at a time:

“We are still fully committed to a March 2007 launch date. Ken Kutaragi has not done any media briefings since the Tokyo Game Show, and the story is not true.”
