The Fnatic System: Veleno and Lakuci
This summer has a lot in store for the fnaticMSI.DotA team including WCG Asia and possibly a trip to Europe. After a few months of some inactivity and roster changes, the team feels that they finally have their chemistry and gameplay back at its' peak. In this interview, fnaticMSI.Veleno and fnaticMSI.Lakuci talk about a little inside info on their team, the past showmatch games and much more!
Hello both of you, I guess you are the fnaticMSI.DotA leaders. First I want you to introduce yourself a little and tell me your role on the team!
fnaticMSI.Lakuci: Well.. hi there... I'm not the leader here, but now all matches will be drafted by me! My name is Ariyanto Sony, I'm 22 years old, gentle, and good mannered haha! My role right now is anything.. =D I can play carry, support, ganker, but please not human wards. LOL
fnaticMSI.Veleno: I'm Andreas, the newest member and captain of FnaticMSI.DotA, I'm 21 years old. I decided to join FnaticMSI.DotA when Melen retired and I thought it would be great to play under the FnaticMSI tag. I can play all roles, but I get the support/warding and ganking role for now on my team.
So Lakuci you are the one responsible for drafting, do you do all the picks yourself or do you listen to your teammates?
fnaticMSI.Lakuci: We discuss first together, what heroes that we want to play, then I make the final drafting in game, I come up with the strategies more than my teammates. I watch many enemy replays.. we are 5 people, so we draft with all 5 people, its just me to take the leader about this =) I am always busy watching replays because I am the drafter lol, I have a big responsibility for this.
On average, how many replays do you think you watch a week? And how many replays does your team watch together?
fnaticMSI.Lakuci: For the team, we watch them by ourselves at home, then later we discuss replays if we meet each other in ritters house, or when we meet for training. For me, I watch 3-5 replays per day.. so in a week bout 35 replays.. hahahahaha.
Are there any replays you watch the most? Of some specific teams?
fnaticMSI.Lakuci: I just download the newest posted replay at many websites... hahaha. No specific team because I think all teams are good and I respect them.. all replays that I think is good, I download it because you can always learn something.
Fnatic is known to many for picking 'weird heroes' sometimes they are successful, and sometimes they are not but how do you come up with your strategies?
fnaticMSI.Lakuci: Hmm, actually we have so many arguments here, then we will try to prove our ideas at trainning, if we lose people will say we pick weird heroes, but if we win they will said OMG... hahahha. We have so many tactics here, but we do not try everything in training, we only discuss by speaking with each other.
So if you don't try some tactics in training, how do you practice them?
fnaticMSI.Lakuci: Because there are so many tactics in dota.. and also we have a bit of a problem for training because the LAN center we go to now is far away from our home, it takes 2 hours.. to get there lol but also we try at our Indonesia battle.net dota here...
fnaticMSI.Veleno: We'll try all our new tactics at public games first or clan wars with local indonesia teams. If we think the tactic can be succesful then later we will discuss it and try it at training against international teams.
Okay, so Veleno why have you taken over as captain? And what does that role mean for your team?
fnaticMSI.Veleno: I've taken captain position for team management because RitteR is busy. I will arrange training with other teams and take care of organization things. Sometimes in game if I need to, I will tell the team to focus on a hero or rax or something like that. Also I spend more time discussing with Lakuci our gameplay and strategies.
Veleno how did it feel to replace melen? Do you think the roster change has made your team better?
fnaticMSI.Veleno: I'm still trying to do my best to adapt with my new role now. Melen was very good support for our team but I think the team improved a lot more than before. We've been focusing to try to fix a lot of our early game mistakes, and we think you will see that for the next "show". =P
How often do you train in a week, and usually what teams do you train with?
fnaticMSI.Veleno: 4 or 5 days a week. We usually train with Asian team like Ks.Cn, Ks, Mineski. The team we have been training with a lot is Mineski.Tbun for now.
Who leads your team in game?
fnaticMSI.Veleno: Each of us know what we must to do, but if needed any person could take charge for leading the gameplay. We all trust each other and all 5 of us is communicating in game.
In Asia everyone knows what the 'fnatic comeback' is. Many times your team is losing badly early game and then somehow you come back and win late game. Do you do this on purpose or do you think early game is a weakness for your team?
fnaticMSI.Lakuci: Yup that's true, our early game is sometimes too weak.. but we already fix this now.. we are really sure that late game with fnatic is strong. So be careful, if you play with us after 60 minutes hahaha!
How did you fix your problems with early game?
fnaticMSI.Lakuci: We watched many replays to find our mistakes, we must fill the map with more wards and gank more. I think early game we stay in our lane too long. So instead of ganking, we get ganked and lose early game. Later we only win late game because we manage to win some battles and farm more.
fnaticMSI.Veleno: Also, we realized we must check runes more. Before I think we gave the enemy too many runes.
After your teams' performances in KOKC and and IDEC tournament, many people don't know if your team is capable to play vs European teams. What can you say about that?
fnaticMSI.Lakuci: Those matches disappointed us haha, we were not in good shape and played bad and also it was many months before we played online against a Europe team...since PDL. We have internet problems here, not good as europe, it's not fair I think.. haha. If you watch that KOKC game with RuSh3D, they ask us to play on the IDEC-Bot hosting. We have the same delay and spikes on that bot like Rinoa's host, but I think RuSH3D has better connection to bot than Rinoa host. If you watch the replay, you can see their potm maneuver perfect with no delay...so it was hard. Can you imagine, we play with ping 280++ versus ping below 100. Sob.
So if you go to a LAN, do you think your team can beat Ks.Int/Ravens?
fnaticMSI.Lakuci: We would try our best for those matches hahaha. We have much respect for those teams. My team always dreaming of playing vs MYM because we only get to meet them online and they owned us in PDL haha. I miss Ks.Int from last year at MGC, but then their roster was much more different. But we are waiting to meet these teams on LAN, it will be interesting but I'll do my best to make sure fnatic will shine as before.
Lakuci with his girlfriend, Kessya
Lets talk about your recent showmatches. First against KingSurf. They owned you first game, and it looked like you were going to lose the second game...how did you stay motivated and win in the end?
fnaticMSI.Lakuci: First game we got outpicked so they could just own us.. In the 2nd game we were losing in the beginning but its our old tactics, lycan + tree FTW!! hahaha so after we farmed a lot we managed to win in the end.
fnaticMSI.Veleno: I have the most confidence for each of us at FnaticMSI.DotA. You must have the best spirit throughout the game, that we can still do it as long as the World Tree or Frozen Throne has not fallen.
What about vs Ks.CN? What happened in those games?
fnaticMSI.Lakuci: 1st game we lost against them...they just outganked us and put much pressure on us. 2nd game we win, 3rd is load game but we lose... You know in the third game we had a really good early game and we were owning until 20 minutes but then one of their player disconnected and we had to reload from 4 mintutes. After the reload, they fixed their early game so good... we were so unlucky for the 3rd game hahahaa...
fnaticMSI.Veleno: At the game vs ks.cn game 1 we're outpicked and ks.cn gank a lot. So it's hard for us to get a comeback. At game 2 we try our old tactic like Lakuci say, and it works. =P Ks.CN playstyle is gankingggg gankingg and gankingg.
fnaticMSI.Lakuci: But now we just played training vs Ks.CN today and we beat them 2:0 lol. I think we learned a lot from that showmatch.
Any last words for your fans or shoutouts?
