In less than a week's time, over 60 teams will gather in the historical city of Melaka, Malaysia to battle it out to prove they are the best in the DotA world along with a prize pool of RM88900 (approx 17610 Euro). With so many teams competing one may be wondering what the outcome may be. Not to worry as GosuGamers has come up with an analysis and prediction of all participating teams as an appetizer for SGNDT.
Most probable to win:
MYM
AEON.sg
XTC
StarsBoba
EHOME
Kingsurf
Inc'Excello
Cybertime
Europe's shining star
The name MYM needs no introductions, as history has clearly shown that MYM is a very fearsome team in any tournament that they join. Although MYM's captain, Maelk, will be absent from this tournament, his substitute KuroKy will surely lead his team well. As seen from their amazing comeback during game 3 of Farm4Fame 2 heat 1 finals. Netting the gold of SMM DotA will be an excellent trophy to add to their ever-growing list of achievements.
The Asians are ready
However, it wont be a walk in the park for the Danish team as Chinese team EHOME, champions of SMM08, will defend their title to the bitter end. While StarsBoba, champions for WCG-ACG, will follow up with an equally impressive fight to grab themselves yet another gold. XtC and AEON.sg from neighborhood country, Singapore will come with heavy shoulders as they must prove that their nation's gold in ESWC08 was not a fluke. While homegrown favorites Kingsurf, Inc'Excello and Cybertime are all equally prepared to take down all adversaries that may come in their way.
In the most likely to surprise category we have:
Irelax1
Goat
Avava
Team Tulpac
The underdogs of Malaysia
Irelax1 are the champions of the Melaka leg of the SMM-qualifiers and thus have a huge advantage for playing in their hometown. It will come as no surprise when they use this advantage and knock out some of the best teams around. Team Goat comes from a very small city in East Malaysia, but their skills in DotA should not be underestimated as they have shown to play with the highest possible skills, losing only to teams such as Kingsurf and Cybertime.
The team from Kazakhstan
Finally, many would probably not recognise the team Avava. However, one should know the player behind the team, Lakuci. Just a few months back, Lakuci and his teammates from dMw have decided to hang up their mice and call it quits for DotA. The huge prize pool involved in SGNDT must have motivated Lakuci to come out of retirement and show the world once again that he is one of the best players in the world, forming a whole new team under the tag Avava to stamp out all that may get in his way. The very unknown team for Kazakhstan, Team Tulpac, is definitely the underdog of this tournament. No one has heard their name until now, their players and skills are just as unknown as their name. However, to be able to travel all the way from Kazakhstan to Malaysia, they are bound to be rather confident they can reach the top 8.
Most interesting teams to watch out for:
PMS|Asterisk
XtC.Nyx
IG.ShizumaPro
Girl Power
Two all girls team have decided to try their luck in the very male dominant game of DotA at SGNDT. Their picks and strategy will definitely be interesting to watch out for. Not to mention that the guys who got beaten will be terribly embarrassed. IG.SHizumaPro is definitely a very interesting to watch. Led by one of Malaysia's best female player, Shizuma, they came out as first runner-ups during the SGNDT-KL qualifiers after falling to Cybertime. Whether they can emulate their success from the KL qualifiers is still to be seen.
A score to settle
Although these matchups may or may not occur depending on the seedings and form of each team. Nevertheless, these particular matchups will be very interesting to watch if it occurs. Anyone who have been following the DotA scene for the past few months will know that MYM's Maelk has a way overdue score to settle with AEON.sg's captain hyhy for trash-talking about him and his team. Maelk may not be present to settle this score with hyhy, but his team mates will bring along their captain's retirement wish to battle. When they meet on the battlefield, they will be fighting for bragging rights more than anything else. This matchup will definitely be full of actions and trash talking in real life until the victor has been proclaimed.Besides fighting for bragging rights with AEON.sg, MYM will have to prove to Cybertime that European DotA players are much better than Asian DotA players.
More than Victory on the line
With all separation comes tension, the same thing happened when AEON.sg broke off from Kingsurf. The Singaporeans feel that they are better half while the Malaysian think otherwise. These two titans of Asian DotA will meet on the battlefield to prove the other wrong. The matchup of any top Singaporean team such as AEON.sg and XtC against any top Malaysian team such as Inc'Excello and Cybertime will prove to be an interesting match as well. DotArians of both nations have always been battling against each other with their nation's pride on their shoulder. To see DotArians of both nations locking horns once again will indeed be an interesting match to watch out for. Finally, who wouldn't want to see the only two all girls team battling for supremacy as the best female DotArians? Although it'll be a sad thing to see one of being eliminated, it'll still be an interesting match to watch.
Most interesting player to watch:
CT | Mushi
Lakuci
MYM|KuRoKy
Stars of DotA
Cybertime's captain, Mushi, may be a relative new name to come out of the DotA scene, however his talent in DotA cannot be underestimated. Arguably one of the best carry players in Malaysia, rivaling only to that of Kingsurf's Yamateh. Mushi has been using heroes not used normally in competitive matches such as Faceless Void, Ursa Warrior and Templar Assassin. It'll be interesting to see what unorthodox heroes Mushi will be using next. Mushi may be a new name in the DotA scene, but the name Lakuci should ring many bells. Having retired from competitive DotA a while back, Lakuci has until recently regained all his DotA skills that was lost during his retirement. The old Lakuci who showed the world that Meepo can be a competitive pick is back and ready to pawn. There needs no introduction as to why MYM's KuroKy is an interesting player to watch out for. His talent in DotA has been seen countless time with replays of his tenure in mousesports, later Ks.Int and finally MYM.
As the clock ticks down, we will see all participating teams training hard for this grand event. Who will reach the finals? Who will gain bragging rights? Which of the underdogs will rise up and defeat the titans of DotA? Can the West beat the East? Or will it be the other way round? All these questions and more will be answered in due course. Stay tuned as GosuGamers provide live coverage of this grand event.
