The Sega Nintendo Entertainment System has seen numerous clones over the years. The funny thing however is that some clones tend to flatter other consoles. On a trip to Mexico we came across the Polystation. Imagine our surprise to find what resembled the Sony PSOne playing NES titles. That curiosity had us delving head long into the many versions and copycats of Polystation.
The Polystation III is the version shown above. The casing clearly mimics the PSOne, but does not have the same durability. It is cheaply made and easily breakable. Lifting the console lid reveals a cartridge slot to handle either 60-pin Famicom carts, 72-pin NES carts, or in some models 2 slots for both. The controller design also mimics the PSOne / Playstation. Two buttons are for normal NES gameplay. The other buttons provide rapid fire. The zapper on the other hand resembles a realistic pistol that would make country polititans crap their pants. The Zapper is probably the best part of this clone. The connectors found on the gun and pads are identical to that of the Sega Genesis. There is also a Polystation Advance that incorporates the PSOne LCD display.
In most cases the system is shipped with a version of the “76 in 1” (or other amount) unlicensed carts. The system is supposedly manufactured in China, and sold in many Latin countries. It can be purchased via some websites and may be called other names such as “Lucky 8”, “Dinosaur”, or other wacky name.
FACT: Nintendo's success spurred more clones then any other console to date (with the exception of "Pong". Even in present times you can find new clones being created. The impressive thing about the clones is the uniqueness or mimicry of other consoles as shown below.
