Liverpool Football Club's revised plans for its Stanley Park stadium have been approved by the city council.

The planning committee backed the revised scheme, which included changes to the original design, on Tuesday.

It is the third draft of the plans - councillors gave the originals the go-ahead four years ago.

Opponents to the scheme have objected, calling the 60,000-seater stadium a "monstrous" development that is too big for the area.

The latest plans include improved leisure and retail facilities.

The Reds' current home will be redeveloped as a car park, sports centre and hotel.

It is hoped the scheme will regenerate public land which stands between Anfield and Everton's ground, Goodison Park.

Owners' dispute

Plans have previously been delayed because the club changed hands and the design was revised.

But with the two owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett in dispute with each other, building work could still be delayed.

The American duo took control of Liverpool in a deal worth £218.9m in February 2007.

But the relationship between the two men broke down some time ago, with the pair no longer on speaking terms.

Their falling-out has led to a war of words.

In a television interview, Hicks outlined his own plans for the future of the club as well as again calling for the resignation of chief executive Rick Parry.

But George Gillett has said he will not sell his share in the club to his rival.

Liverpool memiliki nama harum di Inggris, raihan 18 gelar juara liga domestik plus tujuh kali menjuarai Piala FA menjadi bukti sahih kehebatan Liverpool. Terakhir kali, kapten Liverpool mengangkat Piala FA adalah dua tahun lalu saat di final mereka mengalahkan West Ham United lewat adu penalti, setelah selama bermain imbang 3-3 di waktu reguler plus perpanjangan waktu. Di kancah liga? Liverpool pantas iri dengan kesuksesan MU. Liverpool terakhir kali menjadi juara liga pada 18 tahun lalu, musim kompetisi 1989/1990.

Di awal musim ini, Liverpool sebenarnya sempat digadang-gadang akan kembali merajai Inggris. Pembelian sejumlah pemain anyar berkualitas tinggi seolah menjadi jaminan. Dengan dana transfer relatif besar, Rafael Benitez mendatangkan darah segar dalam diri Fernando Torres, Ryan Babel, Lucas Leiva, dan sederet nama-nama anyar lainnya.

Hasilnya memang tidak terlalu buruk. Liverpool menembus semifinal Liga Champions, dan bercokol di peringkat keempat klasemen Premiership. Mungkin satu-satunya “noda” Liverpool adalah kala mereka ditundukkan Barnsley 1-2 pada putaran kelima Piala FA. Meski tidak terlalu buruk, tentu pencapaian Liverpool musim ini belum memuaskan para Liverpudlian. Sebab sudah terlalu lama mereka puasa gelar jawara Premiership.

Rasa kecewa terhadap pencapaian Liverpool musim ini juga menghinggapi sang kapten, Steven Gerrard. Walau demikian, ia yakin bahwa timnya telah mengalami peningkatan kualitas. Ia pun yakin, bahwa Liverpool tinggal menambah skuadnya dengan dua pemain berkualitas lagi untuk dapat merebut juara liga.

“Kami telah membuktikan di musim ini, bahwa kami tidak terlalu jauh di belakang sang pemimpin seperti kesan yang terlihat di klasemen. Kami kecewa karena tidak mampu menjaga penampilan terbaik untuk waktu lebih lama,” tukas Gerrard seperti dilansir Goal.

Ia menambahkan “Harapannya, kami dapat berinvestasi dengan menambah sepasang pemain berkualitas. Kami kian dekat (dengan juara liga). Saya beruntung telah memenangkan banyak hal dibanding (pemain) kebanyakan, namun saya rakus dan ingin lebih (banyak kesuksesan) bersama Liverpool,” tutup Gerrard.

Reds reject £25m Inter Gerro offer

LIVERPOOL have turned down a £25million Inter Milan bid for Steven Gerrard.

The Italian giants want to make him their main signing as they begin their centenary celebrations.

A top Inter official confirmed: “We need to make a big signing for next season and Gerrard was at the centre of our thoughts.

"Liverpool gave us the most emphatic response he was not for sale.

“We have drawn up a list of alternatives. But if Liverpool decide to sell, Gerrard is our top priority.”

It is not the first time Inter have tried to snatch the England midfielder.

Preliminary contact for the Kop skipper, 27, who has two years left on his current contract, was made during the Champions League second-round tie between the sides in February.

Juventus will make a £15m bid to tempt Xabi Alonso from Anfield this summer.

But they could face a battle with Barcelona, now Alonso fan Josep Guardiola has been confirmed as Nou Camp manager in place of axed Frank Rijkaard.

Mascherano lebih bisa ambil peran itu... nyambungin antara defensive ma offensive... jd ga ada gunanya ada 2 tukang angkut air..
Barry lbh berstamina... dia bs ada dimana2... dan bagusnya jg dia sering ditandemin ma Gerrard di Timnas Inggris... so, aq kira ini bagus buat liverpool n timnas inggris sendiri...
