I also have a question
there are 12 rocks, 11 of them have equivalent weight, the other one has different weight (can be lighter OR heavier)
you are given a scale, like the one used in traditional market. With that scale, you must find the one that has different weight, and tell if that is heavier or lighter than the others
you can only use the scale 3 times, so how to find the one rock with odd weight ACCURATELY?
example: put 1 rock on the left, 1 rock on the right
if left heavier/lighter, than... if right heavier/lighter, than... etc etc
it's so hard that it took me 3 days to solve that thing (maybe ou can solve it in 3 minutes?)

Ok, first, let's number the stone from stone 1 to stone 12.
Then, put them to 3 different groups. Group one contains stone 1-4, group two 5-8, group three 9-12.
Then, weigh group one against group two.
If it doesn't balance, then the different-weight stone is in there. For example, if group two is the heavier side, then put them to three groups again. Group one contains 1, 2, 5, group two contains 6, 7, 8 and group three is 3 & 4. Weigh group one and two. If it doesn't balance, then the different stone is in that group. Then if group one is the heavier side, then the answer is stone number 5. But if group two is heavier, the answer is either 6, 7 or 8. To determine which is the answer, we weigh 6 against 7. If one of them is heavier, then it is the stone. But if it balances, then the answer is stone number 8. Back to 1, 2, 5 vs 6, 7, 8, if it balances, then the answer will be either 3 or 4. Now to determine which one is the answer, weigh the two of them. The heavier one is the answer.
Back again. If group 1, 2, 3, 4 vs 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 balances, then the answer is in group number 3 (9-12). Pick two stones from 1-8 (I'll pick 1 & 2) and two stones from 9-12 (I pick 9 & 10). If it it balances, then the different stone is either 11 or 12. Then, weigh stone 1 against 11. If the weighing balances, the answer is 12, otherwise, it's 11. Once again we're back to 1, 2 vs 9, 10. If it doesn't balance, then the answer would be either 9 or 10. Then, weigh 1 against 9, if it balances, then the answer is 10. But if it does not balance, the answer is stone number 9.
Well, that's all ... took me a while to understand the answer, though. And yeah, I cheated :P What internet can't do for me? Ahahaha.
