Saat suhu tubuh kita naik, muncul kekuatiran jika tubuh kita terkena penyakit. Padahal, tidak setiap kali suhu tubuh naik pertanda kita sedang sakit. Terdapat beberapa faktor yang menyebabkan suhu tubuh naik. Pertama, karena metabolisme (proses pertukaran zat dalam sel tubuh) meningkat. Kedua, adanya peningkatan proses pembentukan kekebalan sehubungan dengan masuknya kuman atau antigen asing. Ketiga, suhu tubuh juga sebagai mekanisme pertahanan tubuh.

Suhu tubuh normal orang dewasa berkisar antara 36-37oC. Suhu terendah terjadi pada pagi hari, sesaat setelah kita bangun tidur, sedangkan suhu tertinggi biasanya terjadi pada malam hari, terutama saat kita tertidur. Pada anak-anak, kondisi normal suhu tubuhnya (kurang dari 38oC) lebih tinggi daripada orang dewasa (kurang dari 37oC). Sebab, anak yang sedang bertumbuh tingkat metabolismenya lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan orang dewasa. Setiap proses pertumbuhan membutuhkan kalori dan menghasilkan panas.

Suhu Tubuh Sebagai Indikator Sistem Imun

Saat ada bagian tubuh kita yang terluka, suhu badan kita akan cenderung naik. Jangan kuatir. Kenaikan suhu tubuh ini disebabkan karena meningkatnya sistem kekebalan tubuh untuk melawan kuman yang masuk dari luka tersebut.

Begitu pula pada tubuh anak-anak, perkembangan sistem imun dapatan belum sempurna sehingga masih mengandalkan sistem imun bawaan untuk melawan kuman yang masuk ke tubuh. Proses penyempurnaan sistem imun dapatan pada anak, yang salah satunya diperoleh dari imunisasi, banyak membentuk sel kekebalan dan kemudian bersintesis dengan berbagai jenis antibodi yang sudah ada. Secara otomatis, proses itu akan meningkatkan suhu tubuh.

Namun, jika suhu tubuh meningkat secara abnormal (lebih dari 38oC), hal itu berarti jumlah antigen asing yang masuk ke tubuh lebih banyak dan ganas daripada ketangguhan sistem imun tubuh. Suhu tubuh yang tinggi juga dapat diakibatkan oleh keadaan dehidrasi karena diare atau muntah-muntah. Suhu tubuh yang lebih dari 38oC itu menjadi indikasi perlunya pemberian obat penurun panas (anti pyretica). Apabila panas tidak segera turun, dibutuhkan antibiotik untuk melawan sel penyakit (patogen) yang masuk ke tubuh terlalu kuat.

Manchester United have announced they have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Juan Mata.

The midfielder will have a medical, almost certainly on Saturday, and personal terms are also still to be agreed.

However, unless there are any hitches, Mata will make his debut in Tuesday's Barclays Premier League encounter with Cardiff at Old Trafford.
