Well, english is international language. That's all, isn't it obvious?

Let's put it in another point of view.

First:
Indonesia has over 200 million population.
If you want the government to feed and provide necessities for all those people....you should wake up by now.
In 20 more years, the population will prob grow to 400 million.
One of the way to handle this situation is probably installing English as a main language in school.
AND, make Indonesia the biggest exporter of human workforce in the world.

NOTE: Did you know that most of the crew in the shipping industries are Filipinos?
Why is that?
Cause everyone in Phillipines was taught English from young, and thus they are considered as a good crew candidate as ships go around internationally.


Second:
If education in Indonesia is taught in English, then you have no need to reprint and translate all those textbooks from English to Bahasa Indonesia.
Everybody now can read and understand English.
Maybe textbook in school can be in Indonesian language, but all those books in Gramedia and Kinokuniya.......lots of papers wasted.
Thus, all those papers being used to print Bahasa Indonesia books can be saved which also means less forest to be cut down........
Save the Forest, Save the Earth, learn English.

English is very very important in my Opinion, but

lot of you that forgot the "Tense" in writing english statement or question.
but so do i..

so, we must using right tense and right vocabulary to making nice English.

English is a given to me ever since I started to take notice of what they call 'subtitle'
Why? because I hated subtitle so much, i wanted to learn how to hear without having to read the text. But in the end, both written and oral English are essential in both conversing/communicating with a foreigner or simply to enjoy/appreciate the movies we watched and the musics we listened.

FYI: there are always jokes in the movies that only a few would understand, those few understand the cultural values of learning English either American, British or some other common dialects. This is really important to adapt with a foreigner, for example: you don't use American jokes on a British and vice versa.

Other common knowledge:
- Germans and Frenchmen don't speak English
- Your regular 'V' finger pose is considered rude by Englishmen because that reminds them of a national tragedy (I couldn't remember which but I couldn't help thinking of that movie "V for Vendetta" )
- America have more than 20 different dialects based on the region and the cultural background, this does not include all the slang, hip-hop and rap stuff so don't bother learning em all, try hard but don't push yourself

Maybe it's time for Indonesian to start looking into the future instead of keep looking back to the past.
"Sumpah Pemuda" will have to adapt to the moving generation. Stay locally and you'll die without even knowing the reason. Everyone should go international, go learn English.

Do you think the kampung people will understand why all the basic commodities prices went up?
Did they know it's affected by the rising oil prices?
Did they know that the government can't do anything about the global rising oil prices?
Is there any "translation" services from every international events to explain to them about what's going on?

The answer is a big "NO", and for them to understand all that, they just have to read most of it from the net, in which majority of the contents are all in English.
