Cataclysm isn't going to affect us at all since there will never be a server for Cataclysm.
Let me 'splain -- no, that would take to long -- let me sum up...
Even if allllllll the other security features that blizz is adding in the 4.0 client could be defeated, there is ONE that will never be defeated: random opcodes.
What that means is that at EVERY SINGLE client switch, we would have to redo *every single* opcode. Not saying it isn't possible, and there will probably be some morons out there that try it, but they will be wasting SO much time, on every client switch, JUST on opcodes, that they will never have time to actually work on the emulator.
So, with that said, unless there is some breakthrough miracle, Trinity will never have a 4.x+ server.
So, TankGirl, you will get your wish We are collecting as much 3.x data as we can so that when blizz switches we will have data to continue on."

@Ciallmhar, that isn't something that can be done now, let alone after they add in the security measures mentioned above. Someone has to sit down with a debugger and spend hours / days / weeks reverse engineering the client every time there is a client switch to pick up the *CHANGES* from the previous client. As it is you see how long it takes from client switch to client switch for us (and everyone else) to have a server that you can at least login to. Now imagine having to do that for not just the changes, but for the ENTIRE client -> server / server -> client protocol at every client switch.

jadi memang kemungkinan besar sudah ada kesimpulan yang pasti. kalaupun ada yang sanggup untuk nge-***** security yang sedemikian rumitnya, kita patut berdiri dan salut! well, just enjoy the game for now shall we?
